Vellum Overlay Card + Blog Hop + Giveaway
Hi there! This is the first video I have created in a long time. Boy, it took forever… but I am trying to get back into the swing of things slowly. I’ve missed you all!
Today’s video shows how to create a vellum overlay card and gives a closer look at the Altenew dye inks. This post also is part of a special blog hop with lots of great giveaways!

I have recently fallen back in love with vellum and enjoy adding it to cards. Here, I show how you can use vellum, stamps, and embossing to create a fun overlay.
I started by stamping the layering floral image from the Altenew Beautiful Day Stamp Set using different shades of Altenew ink on to a small note card. You could use any inks here, but I really like that Altenew offers their inks in a combo of four because it takes the guesswork out of layered images. Each color family has a light, medium, dark, and super dark ink. You can buy them together or separate… and in full pads or mini cubes.
I created my cards with my favorite heavyweight vellum and adhered the mini stamped card inside. After applying anti-static tool to the front, I heat embossed the outline image of the flower and leaves in white… directly on top of the images underneath. When heat embossing on vellum, I let the heat gun get very hot before bringing it to the vellum. This prevents warping.
(By the way – I created 7 cards… with a few of them using the Altenew Peony Bouquet Stamps instead.)
I heat embossed a sentiment on the vellum using a sentiment from Altenew’s Thinking of You Stamp Set. I didn’t have the right shade of blue embossing powder so I created my own by mixing some blue and silver powder together. I really like the quality and value of WOW embossing powders.
I also customized my embellishments by applying VersaMark to some pearls and heat embossing them using coordinating embossing powder. After adhering the small note card inside, I adhered another matching panel to the back of the card to hide the adhesive. I finished off the card by adding some shimmer and shine with a Wink of Stella pen.
Remember, any inks will work for this technique. If you don’t have many colors of ink, try double or triple stamping to achieve darker shades. You can also use any outline stamp set for this technique and just color the image on the inside. Have fun and experiment!
INK SWATCHES
In the video, I show my ink swatches for the Altenew Ink combination. Click HERE to download the free ink swatches. These are bigger than my normal swatches (I store them in THESE sleeves), but you could cut them down to fit other pockets or punch a hole for a key ring.
