Rainbow Stamping + On-the-Edge Die Cutting

Hello. Today’s video shares how to do rainbow stamping along with on-the-edge die cutting. I combined these techniques to create a smooth, one layer card.

I’ll be honest – these techniques are really hard to describe in words, so I recommend checking out the video. I also show a few ways to get the look of rainbow stamping, depending on what tools you have.

The Reverse Confetti Butterfly Dreams stamp set was perfect for these technique. I stamped the butterflies in several bold inks from Ranger… using masking to create the rainbow.

To allow the butterfly to hang off the top of the card but still remain one-layer, I did a simple partial die cutting trick with the coordinating die.

So I must confess… I love the look of splatters on backgrounds but I have control issues. 🙂 Instead, I used the Lots of Dots stamp set from Simon Says Stamp to add tiny dots to my background. A lot of stamp sets include smaller images that would be perfect for this.

Don’t worry if you don’t have the exact tools that I used. There are other ways to achieve the same look. Instead of using a MISTI (my favorite!), you could a stamp positioner or even tape two wood mounted stamps together to create a corner you can stamp into. You can also use other products to do the rainbow stamping too. Hero Arts has Ombre ink pads and Kaleidacolor offers multi color ink pads that would make this step a lot faster.

I hope you give these techniques a try. It works great with any stamps and coordinating dies!

  2. Love the tips if you don’t have the MISTI or a stamp positioner; as I do not XD. But I will be investing in a MISTI sometime this year; so many crafters seem to love it and it’s such a simple design!

  3. Hi There

I really love this card. You are always so good at giving directions and pronouncing your words. I am deaf and wear an implant, thus the comment. It is often times so hard to understand people on different shows because of how fast they speak. Thank you for the chance to win a giveaway. Good to see you back. Hope you had a time of rest and / or peaceful days to enjoy life.

I wanted to tell you that the tip you gave at the end of your video made me LOL!! I saw a video once with this lady who made a Stamp-a-majig with LEGOS from her kids, it was really very creative.

    Big Hugs,

  21. Oh my gosh, this card is so me! I used to have that multi colored ink pad but it all dried up. I loved that ink pad and I’d like to get another one. I didn’t know they even still made them. Thanks for letting me know that they do. I’m going to watch your video too. I’m sure even though I don’t have a die cutter I can do this too. Love it!

  22. Hi, I will not ever have in my limited income a budget for the Misti tool. So…made one using a clear DVD case. Cut to fit the bottom of the case with the $ Tree craft foam [10-20 pcs per pkg] one piece and use wash tape to secure the card in place, then use as the Misti directions state. WORKS great for me. Just are limited to an A2 sized card.

  23. Jennifer I never tire of watching your informative tutorials & always learn something new!
