Watercolor Lifting + Giveaway

Hello! A couple weeks back, I shared a video showing a fun Distress Ink lifting technique. Many of you tried this technique and loved it, so I thought I would come back and share a variation. This one involves watercolor lifting and heat embossing. Oh – and this post is part of a very special celebration…

I am not the best with watercolor, so I really like techniques that allow me to use watercolor and let it do the work for me. This is a great example of that!

I used Tombow Markers and water to create a bold watercolor background on watercolor paper. After it dried, I clear heat embossed lots of images from the Paper Smooches Botanicals 2 set on top. I next added water again over the images and “lifted” the color away. Anything under the embossing stayed the same… and the background around it lightened. Easy!

To keep the focus on the watercolor pieces, I kept the rest of the card elements white. I layered several white Paper Smooches Bird House die cuts on top of each other to create dimensional embellishments and used floss to “hang” them from the top of my card.

Adding dimension to the die cuts really helps to make them pop. Makes a huge difference!

I decided to keep the sentiments simple, also… using messages from the Paper Smooches Fun and Flirty and Paper Smooches Have Faith stamp sets.

I hope you will give this technique a try!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO PAPER SMOOCHES!

Paper Smooches is celebrating 5 years of sharing stamps with us! Kim (the owner of Paper Smooches) is one of my favorite people in the industry. She is kind, big-hearted, supportive, understanding, and talented. I love that she has a “Paper Smooches style” and sticks with it. Her images always make me smile. As does she.

To celebrate 5 years, Paper Smooches is having a small blog hop with big prizes.
