This is the card that my family sent out for Christmas – 200+ in total. Yes, it takes me a lot of time. But, it is very important to me and something I enjoy doing for my family and friends. I love handmade greetings and am willing to do whatever it takes (panic, getting the family to help, working on them at basketball games and car rides, etc.) to get them done every year. Everyone is different – but to me it is worth the time and effort. Some people bake. Some people wrap fancy gifts. I make cards. 🙂

A month or so ago, my friend Kristina asked me about my Christmas card plans. I told her I hadn’t started but knew I wanted to create a foiled frame around our family photo. Being the darling that she is, she created a fabulous piece for me to use! (You can find something similar HERE or by searching on Etsy.)

After printing the background on white cardstock with a laser printer, I added gold and silver DecoFoil and ran it through my Minc Machine. The results are amazing. (The video shows the big Minc Machine, but I recommend the Mini.)

I always like to include a family photo on our Christmas cards. I am in love with this photo taken by my dear friend Cathy Blackstone – she is the best! (Boy, it is nice to have talented friends.) I also used the Simon Says Stamp Blessed Die to cut gold foil cardstock backed with Stick It… and added the die cut to the photo.

(By the way – please forgive the poor photos. Foil cards are hard to capture!)

  1. I do make cards for family friends and workmates i made about 50 this year mostly in a CAS style. I enjoy variety so make only a few of each design and used lots of die cutting

  2. Happy New Year (‘s Eve, depending on the time you see this). I do make cards sometimes, but certainly not as well (or as many) as you do. I tend to prefer making birthday cards over holiday cards though.

  3. Happy New Year, thanks for all your ideas and techniques. I sent out handmade cards this year, it has been a while.

  4. Love your Christmas card. I do make about a dozen or so Christmas cards just for the immediate family and special people. Happy New Year!

  5. I love you videos, i watch them all the time, I only send a few cards to close friends and family but am an avid scrapbooker, and just recently got into Simon says stamp dies and stamps.

  6. I made a few Christmas cards this year. Not as many as I have made in the past. I did make sets of assorted cards to give as gifts. Thank you for for all of your informative videos. Happy new year to your family.

  7. Love your Christmas card! I wish I had the time and patience to make 200 holiday cards. I only make them for immediate family, and some very close friends.

  8. I have loved each of your foil videos, and this card is fabulous! I have been playing with foil and have found that you can use it on both laser transparencies and laser vellum. I can’t even begin to imagine the possibilities this creates for valentines, etc. and would love to see you explore the different mediums . Also, I have my Christmas cards printed on stationary card. I am going to try laser printing over them and adding foil to get the same sort of text effect without having to run a billion die cuts. Thanks for sharing your joy and creativity!

  9. Hello, Jennifer! As a fellow cardmaker, I wondered if you are familiar with Announcement Converters, a paper supplier out of Florida. They have great qualities of cardstock and specialty papers at very, very good prices, including your favorite Neenah Solar Crest White cardstock. I was looking for a good price on specialty glitter paper when I came across them. Just Google: Announcement Converters, and away ya go! They give very good, quick service and great customer service also. Blessings and joys, Elizabeth Hansen

  10. Your cards are always so great. You have been my inspiration in so many of the cards I’ve made. I have a question – you always give great organizational advice as well – how do you store your foil? I have so many large and small pieces and right now they are in a paper folder, but it is hard to keep them flat because they want to curl whenever I open the folder. Do you have a trick you use?

  11. Beautiful card and family. Love all the gold and silver. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
    Thanks for sharing.

  12. Such a beautiful card.
I have one question to the technique: would it also be possible to print “blessed” directly on the photo (with a laser printer) and then put it in the mint machine to foil it or is it not possible to do this with photos (somehow I’ve never tried to laminate photos)?
    Thanks
    Sophia
