I’m a big fan of creating multiple cards at once and really enjoy giving sets of cards as gifts. (My mother and mother-in-law get a set for Christmas every year. THIS is what I gave them last year.) A couple years ago, I also created over sixty card sets as favors for a bridal shower. I think everyone appreciates a handmade card set – it is something they can use and share with others.

I created eight cards for this set – all the same design but in a variety of colors. The flowers are from the Simon Says Stamp Floral Bookmarking set and were the perfect backdrop to the sentiment.

The sentiment is from the Hero Arts Acts of Kindness Stamp Set  (25% of the profit of this stamp set goes to the Kind Campaign to end bullying!) and stamped with black ink from Hero Arts. To make the cards special, I wanted to add touches of foil to my cards. (But not too much since I had several cards to create!) The toner pen is great for adding small amounts of toner where you want foiling. (Toner is necessary to fuse this foil to the paper. You can instead print on a laser printer or copier.)

I used the toner pen to add a thin strip of toner along the bottom edge of stamped piece. I also applied it to a couple of heart images from the same stamp set – similar to stamping with markers. I placed some gold DecoFoil (my favorite) on top of the toner and ran it through the Minc machine to add gold foil touches. (You can use a laminator, too.)

I adhered the stamped and foiled panels to green note cards that I stamped with the Simon Says Stamp Diagonal Stripe Background Stamp.

Whenever I give a set of note cards, I place them in a sturdy, clear box that includes envelopes, postage (THESE are my favorite), and a nice pen. This makes a great gift!

When creating card sets, I highly encourage you to create an assembly line… doing one step completely before moving on to the next. It saves so much time!

I hope this inspires you to create multiple cards to give as a gift. It is a great way to put your supplies to good use!

  1. Wow, Jennifer! This toner pen and this card set is brilliant! I love your work and sense of style and organization. I have made sets of cards for my family members. I did not use the clear box, but will definitely up my packaging game. I wish you taught classes locally here in the SF Bay Area. You have great ideas for cards. That is where I get stuck. Would love to know your process for how you come up with how to design your cards – simple but so very elegant!

  2. I only made one card set for a friend’s birthday before. Thanks for your video, I think I will start making card sets for my love ones.

  3. I have made card sets as gifts in the past. But I hate mass producing, so these days I will just package up a group of cards instead, I think people like getting the individual unique ones better.

  4. I really love the idea of making a gift set of cards, but i have not yet made any myself. I have been card making for onky half a year and am still learning amd findimg out new things…. Will definitely try to make a set soon. Thank you!

  5. I have made sets of cards for gifts and plan to give sets as Christmas gifts this year. I look forward to trying foil techniques one day. Thank you for sharing the toner pen. What a fun tool!!! Thank you for encouraging kindness!

  6. I’ve made a card set one time, it was a set of invitations for my cousin. I’m wanting to try to make a few for christmas this year.

  7. Thank you for encouraging kindness through things we do so often. The way you used the toner pen added the perfect touch. While I have made up a few CTMH card kits, I have not yet made cards from scratch.

  8. I’ve never made a set of cards but I have made random cards for my mother-in-law on request. She’s probably like a set! I’m feeling inspired!

  9. Yes, Christmas ones actually, with the 12 days of Christmas – the kids had a great time seeking out who got which card and putting them in order.

  10. Although I have given a variety of cards together as a gift, I have not made a coordinated set. BUT I have on my Christmas gift list a project of a really cute Coach style purse out of card stock that I saw on Pinterest that holds a set of note cards and I’m going to make it for all the ladies on my gift list, including my three grown daughters. Love the set that you did here. As always, such great techniques! Thanks for sharing with us.

  11. I love making card sets–have made many over the years and everyone who received them seemed so happy. Love the idea of putting the new “from me to you” stamps in with them! Am excited to try the toner pen–don’t have a laser printer and this beats having to run to the office supply store all the time!

  12. Yes I have made a card set….a long time ago a card you made was the inspiration and you still inspire me today. Thankful for you, Jennifer.

  13. The toner pen is so neat. You have designed another great card set. Thanks to your inspiration I have made card sets as gifts to teachers and my mother in law. Now I have to step up my packaging for them with a nice box and pen. Thanks again.

  14. I gave my best friend of 25+ yrs a set this summer and I am working on Christmas gifts now. Handmade is the best gift! In my own crazy mind it justifies the expense of this hobby to rarely purchase a gift for a loved one.

  15. I tried using my foils with a laminator on all different settings but without scrapes of foil success, there were bits of foil everywhere! I love the look of foil on a card, so I will have to persevere! No, I have never made a card set as I don’t feel that it is something I could make well enough as a gift for someone.

  16. My best friend wanted me to make her some cards but she wanted to pay for it (she wants me to start selling) which is crazy. So I made her a card set for her birthday to solve the disscussion.

  17. I did not know about the toner pen. Thanks for the info. I really like the note cards with the touch of gold. Great job. I am sure the recipient(s) will make good use of them.

  18. Great cards! I haven’t made a matching card set though I do send a friend a pack of mixed birthday cards every year for her to use when she needs them.

  19. I have never made a card set but every time I see you do it I vow I am going to make sets for gifts. You always make it look so effortless and fun! Thanks for the inspiration!

  20. What a pretty card set! I haven’t made any card sets myself [yet]. It’s one of those things I always think “I should do that for birthdays and such”, but then I never get around to it. I guess I should give it a shot! 🙂 Thanks for the giveaway!

  21. I have made many individual cards but never a set. I think I may give it a try after watching your video. Wish I could afford a Mink machine it looks so cool. Thanks for your interesting and informative videos.

  22. Thanks for the great tips on making card sets more efficiently! I’ve actually never made a card set because it seemed like a ton of work, but after watching this video, I’m inspired to try out a simple design. It really would make a cute gift.

  23. Yes, I do make card sets for gifts…some times they are all related…same stamps but different colorways or they are related by theme…all humorous for different occasions. I’ve also made a matching box to go with the cards. They do make great gifts.

  24. Gorgeous set! I have never done a set like this before -and doubt I ever will, you are so talented!!!- but I just put together a set of random different occasion cards I made to send to a friend of mine who is a preacher involved with hospice patients. I’ve done small monogramed note card sets in the past, but never anything larger than 3″x3″. You make it look so easy I need to get inky and try, thank you for the fabulous inspiration and giveaways!

  25. Beautiful technique and lovely set! I make card sets for my grandmothers as they love to send cards. Someday I have to get a Misti because that will definitely make the card making process (as far as sets go) a lot faster!!
