Free Downloads, New Class + Giveaway

Hello! Today I wanted to share with you lots of good things… all that involve my friend Amy Tan. Amy is a scrapbooker/crafter/life-documenter/creative-inspirer who adds a lot of positive energy into the craft world. (Oh, and my Lila will hopefully marry her Jack someday.)

When I decided to do the Share Handmade Kindness Challenge, I decided not to reach out to many artists or companies to ask if they wanted to be a part of it. I didn’t want to add anything onto anyone’s plate. (So if you see someone or a company involved here it is because they heard of the challenge and reached out to me offering help. Good people!) However, I knew I needed to contact Amy. I knew the spirit of this challenge was something she would relate to. And I am glad I did.

VIDEO

Amy is known for her colorful, motivational, hand-lettered watercolor pieces she shares on Instagram. Well to celebrate the Share Handmade Kindness Challenge, she did a video showing how she created a kindness piece. It is such a happy video with easy tips on lettering. (And her outtakes at the end are awesome – I need to start including mine!)

[To watch the video in HD on YouTube, click HERE.]

While watching the video, please give Amy a thumbs up and subscribe to her channel! (Amy didn’t ask me to say this. I just feel very strongly that it is important to support other designers… especially when they are incredible as her.)

FREE DOWNLOAD

And what’s even better? Amy is offering FREE downloads of the kindness print and card she made in the video. Sweet, huh? You can get the FREE downloads HERE.

GIVEAWAY

Amy also said that I could give away the original of her kindness print here! For your chance, leave a comment below by 11:59pmEST on 11/10/15 telling me if you have ever tried hand-lettering. (I have and it really needs some work! lol. The winner’s name will be randomly selected and posted on my “Winners page” after the giveaway closes. International folks are eligible, too!)

NEW CLASS

As you know, I think one of the best ways to enjoy the creative process is to learn as much as you can. Well, Amy just launched a great class today that I think may be of interest to some of you.

Amy

Amy and Jamie Waters (another big-hearted talent in the scrapbook world) are launching their first class together, The Creative Life: Documented! It’s a five part online workshop featuring over 50 never before seen projects that just went live. Amy and Jamie are sharing the best tips and techniques to help you get creative and squeeze more out of your precious time, so you can get more of life’s moments documented.

And as a special incentive, all students who register by 11:59pm PST on Saturday, November 7th will get a free mini book shipped right to their door. (You know I love happy mail!)

They made a video to tell you all about the class… HERE to learn more.

I will be back soon. Have a great day! (And thank you, Amy, for being so awesome. Love you.)

  1. I’ve done hand lettering and I love it, albeit intimidating. I first fell in love with calligraphy in 4th grade, when during a school art day, a 6th grader wrote my name in calligraphy with a chisel-tip highlighter. I copied it and showed my mom and she bought me a set of felt-tip calligraphy pens. Thirty years later, I still enjoy hand lettering. I LOVE watching videos of hand lettering and am constantly learning different styles and techniques.

  2. I have nice handwriting but I have not tried hand lettering. I have always wanted to learn calligraphy but, so far, all I have accomplished in buying the book, “Calligraphy for Dummies.” I enjoy watching the videos as that is how I learn best. Amy is great and so is Christina Werner. Keep the videos coming.

  3. How sweet! I have tried handmade lettering, but can’t get a consistent look I’m dependably satisfied with. Guess I need more practice! I always prefer the neat, dependable look of stamps. : )

  4. when i was younger my mom got me a caligraphy set and learning book. tried it for months but never got te hand of it 🙁 now i feel like if i tried again i could do well

  5. NOPE!! I’m NOT A FAN of my Writing so I KNOW I WOULDN”T like anything that I Hand Lettered myself!! I LOVE the Look though and the Writing of others!! =) THANKS for sharing and for the chance to WIN!! Have a FABULOUS WEEK!! =)

  6. I have just started playing around with hand lettering–I definitely need more practice! My favorite technique right now is something called “faux calligraphy”–super easy and it looks like you really know what you’re doing!

  7. I have never tried hand lettering. My handwriting is not very pretty….I think that’s one of the reasons I like stamping so much.

  8. I got inspired by Kristina Werner’s hand lettering posts that I recently (last month or so) have started practicing hand lettering. It will take a LOT of patience!

  9. Amy is such fun. I have tried hand lettering in the past with calligraphy pens – pretty unsuccessfully. I definitely need to practice

  10. I try hand lettering all the time. So far I haven’t created anything
that I would hang on my wall or send to anyone. But I keep trying.

  11. I LOVE typography and lettering!! I think my handwriting is pretty nice, but never good enough – the writing is always better on the other side 😉 I do think it’s important to document with our own handwriting, regardless of how it looks. It’s our unique “stamp.” . Nothing makes me happier than getting something in the mail and recognizing who it’s from by the writing! It is so sad to me that kids aren’t taught cursive writing anymore – what a loss of art!

  12. I’ve never tried hand-lettering, because I think my handwriting doesn’t look very great, but this one looks amazing.
