Caring Hearts Card Drive!

We are back for the 6th year for our annual Caring Hearts Card Drive… collecting handmade cards to give to those that live in nursing homes. Caring Hearts Card Drive is all about bringing joy and holiday cheer to the elderly that are often quite lonely. In 2014, we collected over 17,000 cards and sent cards to many nursing home in US, Canada and Australia.

Vera Yates (the mastermind behind this – she rocks – please visit her blog!) and I are excited to be back this year spreading kindness… with your help! We all love making cards and what’s better than knowing our creations can bring a smile to others, right?

Let’s do this!

A few important details:

  • This card drive will be going on from October 3 to November 27, 2015. We need to receive your card by November 27, 2015.
  • Please make the cards for Christmas or Holiday Wishes. Anyone can send a card – your children, church group, scout troops, etc.
  • All cards need to have a message in it – stamped or handwritten. Please sign your name and where you are from.
  • Please include an envelope for each card but don’t seal the envelope.
  • Please stick to just cards – standard size 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ or smaller.
  • And please don’t use any pins for safety reasons.
  • This is totally optional… if you’d like to include $1 or $2 to help with shipping, it’ll be much appreciated. We cover the shipping cost ourselves, with no sponsor, so any donation toward shipping would help tremendously.

We have a few awesome ladies helping us in collecting the cards. Tina Schrof is working with Jennifer in collecting the cards. Since international shipping is expensive, those of you in Canada can mail your cards to Anita or Caroline and they’ll distribute the cards. And, for those of you in Australia, you can send to Linda. Here are the places you can send your cards:

  • Vera Yates, 1314 Roy St., Houston, TX 77007
  • Tina Schrof , 185 W. Pugh Drive,  Springboro, OH 45066
  • Linda Langes, c/o Gilston State School, 588 Worongary Road, GILSTON QLD 4211, Australia
  • Piney-fine, Attn: Anita, P.O. Box 30,  Piney, MB R0A 1K0
  • Caroline Bredeson, 7 Brown Street, Ottawa, ON K1S 1L9, Canada

In each package, PLEASE include THIS SUBMISSION FORM.  This helps us in keeping track for prizes! For each card you send, you will get a chance at a prize. So the more cards you send, the better your chances.

To thank you for your generosity in supporting this drive, we have lots of PRIZES for lots winners!

We’ll update the prize list as more prizes come in. And huge thank you to all the fabulous, generous companies who support this card drive by donating awesome prizes. Please keep these companies in mind when you do your next bit of crafting shopping!

Please feel free to share about this card drive. And be sure to use the hashtag #caringheartscarddrive on social media.

We really appreciate your support & generosity. Let’s rock this card drive and bring Christmas joy to as many nursing homes as we can!
Thank you.

  1. What a wonderful act of kindness!! I’ll be working on some this weekend. Thanks for letting others be involved in this great project!!

  2. I am always thrilled to see you offer this fabulous card drive. Each year I was fortunate enough to receive boxes of cards to share at senior facilities will be memories I can ever forget. Some residents still have their cards displayed! Thank you so much for all you each do to make this possible. Blessings

  3. I am so happy to see this. I have been wanting to find some other places to send all my cards to since the organization I was sending them to is no longer collecting cards. Thank you SO much. I am going to get busy making cards as soon as possible. blessings ~ Pam

  4. Love this idea! It is great that we from overseas can participate as well without spending too much on postage :>

  5. YAY!!! So glad we can do it in Australia. I’ve just moved back home to Australia from living in the states for 9 years and I was going to miss doing Caring Hearts again but then I was so happy to see it here, I have recruited some others to do it too here, so happy to do this again!! : )

  6. Thank you for organizing such a wonderful cause. My mother worked in a nursing home and I realize how this will bring big smiles/joy for months to these folks. I will be sending some as well. Thanks again!

  7. I just read about this on another site, and have to say, what a great cause! I don’t usually make cards because there’s only so many I can send to my friends and family members, but will definitely be making some for this! Thank you guys for organizing and publicizing such a great project!

  8. I really want to participate. Thank you for helping send to those that sometimes get forgotten at the holidays. BTW, the submission form link is not working for me.

  9. What a wonderful idea. As a physical therapist, I work in nursing homes and I know, first hand, how lonely some of the folks can be there! Receiving mail, especially around that time of the year when families get together to celebrate will be mood lifting. Thanks to all of you sponsoring such a cause!

  10. This is great, Jennifer! Gives me a reason to make cards…not that I really need any, but it helps to know that they are wanted somewhere. Two questions: do they have to be 1 layer cards? I am a nut for foam tape 😉 – but if it’s one layer that is wanted, I will try my best to resist!! Also,I have a few from previous Christmas’ that I could send but they are not one layer. Second question is do we sign on the inside of the card? I am assuming so, but just want to make sure.
Thanks so much for taking up this cause, Jennifer. My mom was in a nursing home for several years and I know she appreciated and loved every card I created for her and it made her day a bit special.

  11. This is such a great amazing awesome idea. I am looking forward in participating. Thank you so much Jennifer for all you do and for sharing this to all of us. You Rock!

  12. This card drive just warms my heart! I used to be a CNA at a nursing home and I know some residents don’t receive many visitors or cards and can feel lonely and left out during the holidays. Thank you for spreading the word and allowing us to help spread some holiday cheer.

  13. Going to try to participate in this great cause!!! Thanks for bringing some sunshine to our older people.

FYI your links to Reverse Confetti and Newtons Nook are taking me to other craft sites.

  14. How did I never hear about this before today?! I am definitely going to participate, because I LOVE making Christmas cards and just don’t have enough people to send them all to! So, I get to craft, PLUS I get to do a good deed. Can’t lose!

  15. I will start working on some holiday cards this evening and get some shipped out. I too give to a local nursing home during the holidays because their are so many that don’t really get thought of during this time. I think I’ll incorporate giving cards as well with the little goodie bags we make up for them.

  16. I wish there was a uk address.
My little brother & I will be making cards anyway & it’ll be even more fun for him knowing they’re going so far away 🙂 x

    1. Sally that’s what I wished a couple of years ago so I got in touch with Vera and asked if I could collect the cards for Australian Nursing Homes. So delighted she said yes and I can be a part of this wonderful venture. I know Vera would be delighted to see it spread to the UK if you or someone you know would like to coordinate 🙂 xx

  17. A THOUSAND THANKS for offering places to send in different countries. This is wonderful for me. I can’t wait to get going on this. I love that we’re asked to include a message and sign our name and where we’re from — to think that someone will get a smile out of just a little caring from a stranger. 🙂

  18. I am thrilled to able to participate in this worthy and heartwarming project. I will be working on cards over the next several weeks.

  19. I’m astonished it is the 6th year – crikey, where has time gone?
Happy it is on again, wonderful drive 🙂

  20. I enjoy creating cards for this drive every year! I think it’s such a heartwarming idea and I hope my cards bring smiles to the faces of those who are not able to go to visit family and friends over the holidays. Thank you so much for sharing!

  21. I just saw this today and am thrilled I found it. I live in Ontario and will be happy to participate and send money for postage as well. I will send mine to Caroline Bredeson.

  22. thank you Jennifer. I was hoping you all would be doing this again this year. I plan on participating as i feel it is such a wonderful gesture.

  23. Jennifer, I love the idea of the card drive and definitely will participate. My question is: Can we send multiple copies of the same design? And if so, is there a recommended number of each design we should send? Thanks, Louise

    1. Louise
I contacted Jennifer via email and she stated that multiples are accepted in any number desired. She said they would distribute to different facilities..hope this helps!

  24. Such a wonderful thing to do for the holidays….
    I’ve already started them….
It’s so nice to be part of something like this…

  25. Jennifer Mcguire:

I have the same question as Louise Fox…

Can we send multiple copies of the same design? And if so, is there a recommended number of each design we should send?

  26. Jennifer, this is such a wonderful and generous thing to do! I am participating this year for my first time. I am getting my cards ready to send! It feels so good to know that one of my cards I donate might just put a smile on someone’s face this Holiday season.

  27. I have never done this before, but I am excited to begin. Thanks for the chance to spread some happiness to others at the holidays.

  28. Our family was a lucky recipient of a box full of cards last year. We took these to the nursing home by our house, along with cards we made, and handed them out to each and every resident. The joy that was brought to the residents was doubled in our family. We met so many wonderful people. It was sweet and so much fun. I can’t wait to do this again this year. Thank you so much for hosting this card drive.

  29. What a wonderful thing to do. I am very glad to find this information on the card drive for the nursing homes! Locally we like to make cards & we enjoy making tray favors for the nursing home meals as well. I will be submitting some cards for this drive as well. Thank you to the sponsors whom contribute for the worth while cause!

  30. This is wonderful! my daughter(11) and I will definitely participate! We do this locally and make about 140 cards for the local veterans home during the holidays, and on special days like Mother’s Day- they really are overjoyed to receive a handmade greeting! Thank you all for volunteering, gathering & distributing!

  31. 2 things: I would like to do this, but if I do, I can’t print anything at present. Would it be possible to mail me a form? I have some all-occasion note cards (no sentiments at present, but I could add some!) that I overproduced in a creative frenzy. Do you know of any charitable groups that can use them?

  32. What a wonderful idea. I just finished my cards and will be mailing them this week. I was happy to do this, knowing that these cards will bring joy to someone.
