Hello! I found a bit of time to share a video. I am really excited about it because it uses a great new stamp and die combo… and shares some tips for die cutting and masking.

Stamps and dies are like peanut butter and jelly – a perfect match. I get really excited to do new techniques using them together. And today’s dies and stamps are very special to me. The Prayers set was created in a collaboration between Hero Arts and Simon Says Stamp… two companies that mean so much to me. I simply love it.

I created two cards using this new set to show a die cut masking technique. For the leaf card, I die cut the Simon Says Stamp Stitched Grand Maple die and the prayers die from Inkadinkado Masking Paper. After heat embossing the prayers sentiment with Hero Arts Gold embossing powder, I arranged the masks.

I used an Ink Blending Tool and applied Peeled Paint, Wild Honey, and Fired Brick Distress Ink over the masks. To create some texture, I placed a screen from Dreamweavers on top of the inked area and applied more of the same ink on top. After the removing the mask, I am left was an inked leaf shape… with a clean and defined white halo around the embossed word. I love this look!

I was inspired by the leaf die and it’s stitching around the edge, so I mimicked that and drew some dash lines around the leaf with a gold pen.

I created another card, similar in design, but used a heart die from Memory Box and silver embossing powder instead. I applied Picked Raspberry, Abandoned Coral, and Ripe Persimmon Distress inks to the masked heart and used a silver pen to add dots around the heart, too.

This technique will work with any stamps and coordinating dies. Experiment and have fun!
