Video: Die Cut Bookmarks + Giveaway!

Hello. Today’s video shares how to create quick die cut bookmarks. Recently, my kiddos started back to school and I wanted to create a little something for their teachers.

There are many ways to create fun fold-over-the-page bookmarks. Today I used a Create A Smile pierced banner die to double partially die cut a long banner. You could do this with many different die shapes!

I stamped each bookmark with a sentiment and image from the Sunny Studio School Time and Create a Smile Magic Flowers stamp sets. I needed to do some quick coloring so I reached for my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers. These markers are fun because they blend together beautifully with or without water. (I used Neenah cardstock today but I do recommend using watercolor paper with these markers to help with blending – even if you don’t use water.) I finished off each image with a couple coats of Clear Wink of Stella.

I’ve gotten many questions asking if the Minc Machine can laminate. From my experience, it can! I placed the bookmark inside a laminating pouch and ran it through my Minc Machine on the 4 heat setting and it worked great. When I trimmed the extra lamination off the bookmark, I left a little lamination around the entire image so it would be durable. Oh, and the lamination really makes that Wink of Stella coating sparkle.

Another option to create these bookmarks would be to die cut two banner images and have them adhere together end to end in the laminating process. You could also add some twine or ribbon at the top for a finishing touch. If you want to skip the lamination, you can!

  1. Love this idea! My go to for quick coloring is distress markers/ink or watercolor colored pencils. Super quick and easy, but gives you fantastic results like you spent a long time coloring it.

  2. Love love love the bookmarks, great ideas!! I go to Copic and am improving my skills with the colored pencils. Thanks!!

  3. Although I’m not very good, my favorite coloring methods are the Zig clean color brush watercolors and my Copics. I don’t have all the colors of either kind, but certainly enough to get the job done. Now, if only I could figure out how to shade properly!

  4. I don’t usually colour but I just ordered a pack of zig real color brushes so hopefully I am going to fall in love with them!

  5. I just love the idea of something practical & different. I am wondering whether your idea could be printed out with a laser printer, so you could then outline it using the foils & the Minki? Off to play!!

  6. I recently got some Stablio pens after your guest showed them and I have been having fun with those. The Zig Clean Color are on my list too. I also love Inktense, and Prismacolor.

  7. Spectrum Noir markers are my new go to color method. I’m practicing a bit of watercoloring with my Tombow markers but it isn’t my favorite method… the ZCC watercolor markers are next on my must have wish list, but that might be awhile down the road.

Thanks for sharing I really liked the book marks such cute simple gifts to give away.

  8. Toss up between Distress Markers/Ink and my Copics!! I use them both and LOVE them both!! It mostly depends on the look I’m going for!! THANKS SO MUCH for sharing and have a FABULOUS WEEK!! =)

  9. I don’t have markers, unless I borrow some from my sons, so I use colored pencils for coloring. Thanks for another great tutorial!

  10. Thanks for the great video, you make it look so easy with the Zig Clean Brush! For my “go to colour” method I use Prismacolor Premier pencils.

  11. Okie Dokie, I fell in love with the markers and now have a set of 60. Thanks, Jennifer, I’ll recreate my version of these lovely bookmarkers!

  12. My favorite has got to be copics … I have taken several classes and love to blend with them…they are probably my favorite because I do the best work with them…still trying water colour but not as good a result yet

  13. Just exploring using markers, pens and pencils! Just .love the projects you share, and really admire your creativity.

Have a good rest of your day!

  14. Beautiful Bookmarks, Jennifer! Typically, I love Copic for most coloring, my second is water color in many mediums from reinkers-Crayola washable kids markers-Marvy markers-Porfolio Series Water Colors (Great Color saturation’s but move with the addition of other paint or water even after they are dry) & Jane Davenport water color mini tins (are amazing, I have the 2 colorful sets: Bright &. Glitz-Sea) and her aqua pastels (love these too although they are a bit chalky). With recent arthritis, I’m finding it hard to open my Copics. I’ve turned to Water Color, plus, After Kathy Racoosin’s road trip in St. Louis, I purchased some Prisma Scholar pencils and find I can and do enjoy coloring with them with ease. Thanks for all you Do!
