VIDEO: Introduction to Minc Machine + GIVEAWAY

Hi! I am *finally* here with an introduction to the Heidi Swapp Minc Machine. I am glad I waited because some newer products are available that I would recommend. This is such a fun way to add foil to your craft projects.

The above video shares a lot of info – I recommend watching it for all the details. However, here are some things I wanted to point out:

  • Both the large and mini Minc Machines are great. For cardmakers, I recommend the mini since it costs less. However, I use the large machine a lot for 8×10 prints for my craft room and gifts.
  • There are many foils out there. I like the Thermoweb’s Deco Foil (thick and easy to use) and Heidi Swapp’s Minc foils (pretty colors). You can also use the newer foils from WOW. (They have a few unique colors and even white foil – so cool.)
  • In the video, I show how to foil a stamped image. You may need to play around with the Minc setting and cardstock shims (as I showed) depending on the powder, cardstock weight and image you use. But it is worth the experimenting! I have found the inexpensive WOW Bonding Powder works great, but you can try any “sticky” powder or clear embossing powder.
  • Try a setting of 3 or 4 when applying foil to cardstock. Some cardstocks are thicker and need the higher 4 setting.
  • You can see all the cool and inexpensive papers, products and accessories that the Minc Machine has HERE.
  • Don’t have the money for a machine? You can use foils with double sided tape – as I show in a video HERE.
  • If you want to print your own toner paper on a laser printer, click HERE. Just download and print.

Next, be sure to go over to Kristina Werner’s blog. She has a follow-up to my video… showing how to create awesome projects with foil along with some great downloads.

Also, be sure to watch my Instagram and Facebook pages – I will be giving away some foil prints that I have made.

HEIDI SWAPP

The Minc Machine is a product created by Heidi Swapp. Although I don’t know her well, I have known her for years. (I started out in scrapbooking 15 years ago.) Recently, Heidi lost her son to suicide. I highly recommend reading her brave post HERE. Depression is so very real, unfair, and terrifying. My prayers are with their family. If you would like to send a card to them, please check the info HERE. ##

  1. Amazing! This video of yours make me have the impulse to buy the MINC machine that is on sale right now, still deciding whether or not I should get the regular size or the mini version. I makes more cards but also altered project that larger than regular A4 size. So puzzling which one works best for me.

Thank you for sharing the technique to use the foil applicator, so much possibilities now that I saw the video and can’t wait to try it out myself.

  2. Great tutorial Jennifer!!!! I found a thermal laminator and have been breathing new life into stamps I have in great new ways for cards and scrapbook pages. I have purchased a few Minc foils to play with ….so affordable too! REady to take the LEAP for a machine 🙂

  3. Jennifer: I have been watching your videos for a long time and completely love all that you do. I had so much fun with the faux metal cards. Mine turned out beautiful & I had a lot of fun. I am going to try the foiling tomorrow! Thanks so much!

  4. I would love to win some foil. I’ve seen your great videos about using foil, but where I live I can’t get a lot of crafting products, and foil isn’t anywhere around. I’m loving the look though, so winning would be great! Thanks for the chance to win some!

  5. Jennifer thank you for another great video. I have foiled ( a little), it wasn’t something that I thought that I needed but absolutely love the results. I’ve had a little trouble finding the foil. Michael’s doesn’t carry the Heidi Swapp foils, maybe only online and JoAnn’s is not restocking any minc machine accessories. I have been able to pickup some of Heidi’s accessories pretty cheap. Thank you for a great giveaway – would love to win!

  6. These are beautiful, thanks for the introduction video! I haven’t tried foiling yet, tho I’d love to! (Every time I try to buy some, the stores are out 😉

  7. You inspire me everyday! I went out and bought a Minc Machine! Now it is time to play! BTW, your videos are clear and easy to follow. Thanks…you are awesome!

  8. I first tried the laminator and it did work okay, but then I just had to have the real deal. It came a couple days ago. Hurt my toe so now I wait until I can play. Love all your videos and now I’m off to watch the other one. Thanks for all the great insight.

  9. Thanks for the fantastic foiling tips! I tried foiling a few years back using the adhesive method but it didn’t make an impression on me. After watching your video, wow, I need to start foiling !

  10. I haven’t tried foiling yet. But, I do have my eye on a laser printer so that I can get started. I think I am going to go with the bigger Minc machine. Thanks for a very informative video.

  11. Thanks for sharing, Jennifer! My first attempt at foiling was using an inexpensive laminator and I did not have good results, but then saw the Minc and immediately ordered a mini. I can’t wait for it to be delivered, although I think the ease and great results of the Minc machine are going to make me a fellow foil addict, LOL! Please enter me in the drawing for your foil giveaway. Thank you.

  12. Jennifer: Just a thought on foiling stamped images….If you have a scanner, you could stamp your image on white paper and SCAN it, then PRINT it using a laser printer, then foil as usual (no need for the sticky powder and embossing step).

  13. Hi Jennifer! First of all thanks a lot for your videos. I also haven’t tried foiling yet but I would love to. I have everything to star, the laser printer a only one color of foil and a laminator. Lets see what I get. thanks!

  14. I have not tried foiling yet but I am so excited to try it now. I have just recently found you on youtube and I love your videos. I can’t wait to see more. Thanks for sharing!

  15. I have not tried foiling yet but would love to give it a try. Thank you for your videos, you are a great inspiration for tips and ideas.

  16. Have not tried this technique yet but after watching your video, the mini machine is on my need to get list.

  17. Oh my wow! I have never tried the foiling technique. I may have to suck it up and buy one of these beauties. Great creations as always.

  18. I haven’t tried foiling yet, but would love to! My first project would be my son’s birthday thank yous that I designed.
I have a laminator and may have to invest in one of the minc machines. Thank you for sharing this video with us.

  19. I remember foiling using stamps, a glue pad and a brayer. And then there was a time when it was fashionable to foil t-shirts and sweatshirts using decals that had adhesive on both sides, foil and an iron. Welcome to newer technology.

  20. I used to foil when I first started stamping over 20 years ago, but it was the old fashioned foil glue and rubbing the foil over the glued areas. It was a little frustrating at times when some of the foil wouldn’t stick to the glue. Now it’s so slick with the new machines! I don’t have a machine but would sure be interested in looking into getting one! Would love to try out the new foils as well to see if they have changed much over the years! Love your videos and blog!!

  21. I have a new wireless laser printer and a couple of packages of foil. I have printed your black toner paper and Kristina’s free foiling template and hope to borrow my daughter’s laminator this week. So, I have not actually done any foiling yet, but I am hoping to make my first attempt next weekend.

  22. Sorry this will be a long question. I have the small Royal Sovereign laminator…love it. I have lots of Heidi Swapp’s foil and Deco foil…my question is when I use Heidi’s plastic carrier sheets they don’t seem to work as well as just a sheet of typing paper??? I have had my copies done at a print shop and asked for the darkest they can get them, but still sometimes the foil does not stick to the object??? any ideas as to why, is the machine to hot and maybe burn off the foil??? Sometimes it works beautifully sometimes not. I sure would appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks, and I love everything you do, and try just about all of them. You make my days very happy. Barbara

  23. I love foiling and have tried it. Unfortunately I don’t have the right tools and so bad results! Thanks for the chance to win. Would love to get my hands on the right kind of foils!

  24. As always this was another great tutorial. I right now use my laminating machine but think I might have to get the Minc mini. It does take a while for my laminater to warm up.

  25. Thank you so much for all the information!!!! I’ve been wanting to get into the foil techniques, but didn’t know where to start. Thanks so much!!!

  26. I haven’t tried foiling yet, but it sure looks like a fun technique. It is always fun to discover a new way to add sparkle to a card.

  27. Very informative! I love all you created. I tried some foiling after seeing your first videos, I love it but for no reason I just stop doing it. At some point I even consider buying a laminator. TFS
