Combining bleach with stamping and inking has been around for years. In fact, I remember teaching classes at my local store showing how to paint/trace over stamped images with bleach on an inked background. However, I wanted to do something simple, so I decided to try “coloring” in heat embossed images.
For this first card, I inked up white cardstock with the new and yummy Blueprint Sketch Distress Ink. After clear heat embossing leaves from the new Essentials by Ellen Thankful stamp set, I painted them in with bleach. The bleach changes the bright blue background to soft pool. So pretty! I also added dots with the bleach.
I put my bleach in a waterbrush to contain the smell and mess. It works great.
For the next example, I started with a Peacock Feathers Distress Ink background and heat embossed leaves and flowers. The color changes to a sky blue when the bleach is lightly added in the images.
I kept the sentiments simple, using a glitter paper “celebrate” die cut backed with Stick It double sided adhesive. For the non-holiday cards, I heat embossing “so proud of you” on a black cardstock strip with matching silver glitter powder. For the holiday cards, I used gold glitter powder for “Christmas.”
For the holiday cards, I went with red and green. A background of red Barn Door Distress Ink turns a soft pink with bleach…
… and a background of Twisted Citron and Mowed Lawn green turns a soft pool from bleach. I also added some red back into the berries for this last example.
There are many things you can do with this technique. It works with other inks besides Distress Ink, too!
