Video: DIY Personalized Shirts with Die Cutting

Hi there! Looking for a fun way to use your die cutting supplies for something other than paper crafts? Today’s video shows how to use dies to create custom DIY t-shirts and more.

My business is the sponsor for my son’s baseball team. Therefore, I decided to do something special for all 12 boys and make them t-shirts with their team name and player numbers. They loved them! And thanks to die cutting, they were simple to make. I used alphabet dies for the examples I give here, but you can die cut any shapes you may have.

My favorite heat transfer material is from Silhouette. You can use this product with your electronic die cutting machine… but you can also use it with traditional dies! I used the green flocked material and the new-and-oh-so-wonderfully-big My Favorite Things Decor & More dies to create the team name, and the black flocked material with the Big Numbers dies for the player numbers. After ironing it on, I have fun custom shirts!

While I had all the supplies out, I also decided to make a special “three” dress for my Lila for her birthday. I used the Silhouette glitter heat transfer material and the My Favorite Things By The Letters and Staggered Hearts Border dies. From the look on her face, I think she liked it. What do you think?! 🙂

By the way, I bought the t-shirts and dresses on big-time sale over at Old Navy. However, you can get good deals on shirts at Amazon, second hand stores, etc.

I really like using these large alphabet dies for custom shirts, school projects, bulletin boards, gifts and more. However, if you don’t have them, you could trace/cut printed letters or use other die cut shapes. I would love to hear your ideas!

Next up? I purchased some inexpensive-yet-high-quality canvas bags that I plan to customize for teacher gifts. Can’t wait!
