Video: Birthday Index Card Box + Blog Hop + GIVEAWAY

Hi there.

I send out a lot of cards. However, I’m not good about sending out birthday cards. I want to change that so I tried out a system that my mom has used for many years. It’s been working for me and I thought it might be helpful for you too! So… today’s video shares how to create a birthday card index box.

This little box is helping me to stay organized… send more birthday cards… and makes me happy!

To create the monthly card dividers, I used the coming-soon Paper Smooches File Folders die and colorful cardstocks. I also decided to laminate the dividers by placing them in some laminating pouches and running them through my laminator. The pouches are inexpensive (I got a ton but you can get a small package) and I was able to fit four dividers in one pouch. I cut all the dividers apart, leaving a small border of lamination around the edges so that I wouldn’t break the seal it created. I labeled each month with my label maker. Man – I love my label maker! (By the way – you could save a lot of time by using store-bought dividers. But what fun is that?!)

I wanted a title card for my index box, so I stamped a sentiment and a balloon image from Paper Smooches Birthday Bash stamp set using black ink. I colored in the balloons with my Copic Markers to match my cardstock dividers. Since the balloons overlap, you get some fun blending in between each color. I also laminated this piece to keep it nice and durable.

I created my own birthday index cards that have all the information you need to stay organized with birthdays. (You can download it HERE.) This will be so helpful when it’s time to send out Christmas cards too. Oh, and I got the clear index box at Amazon… but it is out of stock so my friends at Simon Says Stamp have some on order and will coming soon HERE.) Isn’t if fun!?

Now I tend to go overboard… but there are ways to simplify this project. You can always use regular dividers that come in most index boxes and use regular index cards instead of the ones I created. You can also just stamp the months of the year instead of using a label maker or just use cardstock dividers without the lamination. Regardless of how you create it, I really hope the idea of a birthday index card box is helpful to you.

  1. Thank you for sharing, this is a great idea. So colourful too.
Love your work. Paper Smooches have great stamps and dies.

  2. Are you my twin? LOL I love being organized too! My daughter says I am THE organizational QUEEN! (But, maybe YOU are!) My cupboards have everything labelled also! HAHA
I love this for getting birthdays organized. I have a book but my large family has moved a lot so my book is starting to look worse for wear from all of the erasing and changing of addresses. This would be a good time to start a new one in this format. TFS!

  3. This is great! I think I will make one of these for my 96-year old client! I am a Senior Caregiver and she is legally blind so she has to have a large font size to be able to read it. All she would care about is the name, birth date and address so I think this would work for her. Thanks for sharing such a terrific idea!

  4. Great idea, will have to try your system to see if it works for me as well. I love that new stamp set can’t wait to get my hands on it. Thanks for the video and the chance to win.

  5. Good Idea! I have such a large family that I always miss someone throughout the year. Maybe this would help.

  6. Gosh, I really love your design aesthetic. All those wonderful bright colors really appeal to me. This little box is so darling.

  7. Best idea ever to have the addresses in the box too! Anything that saves time and looks cute is a winner!

  8. I love this idea -i usually have a post-it note of upcoming birthdays but somehow it ends up underneath everything on my desk, or i don’t check the calendar and forget about those with birthdays close to the beginning of the month!

  9. Thanks for the chance to win! Love this idea!!! As soon as we are done moving, I’m going to make this my first project. But since I don’t have the die, I’ll just use my Cricut Explore to create the folders.

  10. I LOVE THIS! I have been using a BD book folder deal, but I sometimes forget to look! I also have a whiteboard in my craft room where I list all the projects I need to do for the month. This looks like a great system!

  11. What an adorable project and OH SO USEFUL!!! You are so sweet and kind to share all your talents with us! Thanks, Jennifer! Blessings to you and your family!

  12. This is such a great idea and I am definitely doing this. Thank you for the download for the cards and for being so good to your fans. I’m a BIG FAN of yours!!!

thanks a lot for your ideas. i love your creativity.

  14. What a great idea. I am trying to make my birthday cards ahead of time. I am trying to keep them all together – this would be the perfect thing. I could put them in the correct month. Love the balloon front. And really who doesn’t love a good rainbow 🙂

  15. I love this idea! I keep birthday reminders in my phone, but I’m really bad at keeping up and checking them. I think this would definitely help me a lot! Thank you!

  16. Jennifer as always I love your cards and videos. Like how you did the balloons with the overlap. Thanks for sharing.

  17. My resolution for the year is to send more cards, period. I am awful at remembering birthdays. This looks like a fun project that would help me reach my goal. Jennifer, you amaze me. If we turned you loose you would organize the world and it would all be color coded, laminated, and pretty! In clear acrylic boxes. I absolutely love it! Thanks for sharing all the organizing tips; I have yet to try one that didn’t work for me.

  18. What a great idea Jennifer! I’m too lazy and unorganized for something like this but I love the idea of it. I just use my email calendar to email me a reminder for upcoming events and then I know it’s time to mail out a card. It’s the lazy person’s organized way of handling upcoming events. LOL

  19. Love this idea! I have a wonderful friend who also uses this idea for her Birthday Calendar. Thanks for the printable and the video! Love it!

  20. This idea is perfect!! I love the idea of having each persons birthday and address all in one place. Plus using is as a double duty for mailing out all your Christmas cards each year is genius! I will be making myself one ASAP!

  21. I’m all about being organized and love this! I especially like the idea for Christmas cards. Your video is really good at explaining how you pull it all together. Thanks for the PDF too!

  22. What a great way to organize birthdays! I’m sure your family and friends will be thrilled to receive one of your beautiful cards. I love the balloons you used on the title tab of the set ad the blended colors as they overlap.
