Video: Stencils and Masking + Blog Hop + Giveaway

Hello! Hope you are all staying warm out there. Today’s video shares how you can stretch the use of your stencils with rubber cement masking. This is by far the quickest way to mask with stencils! (And I also have info on a fun blog hop and giveaway…)

There is something so gratifying about taking a white piece of cardstock… adding a little ink… and turning it into something that will make someone smile. That is what today’s cards are all about. Oh – and I have a technique that makes it simple!

I started by inking up the sun stencil by Simon Says Stamp with a variety of Distress Inks on white cardstock. Next, I put a thin layer of rubber cement over the inked sun using my ink blending tool. Once it dries, it will protect the image from future inking. This is such a simple and fast way to mask… especially with a stencil!

I didn’t have a cloud stencil, so I created my own by die-cutting a cloud border from a piece of recycled plastic. I used Tumbled Glass Distress Ink and rubbed the ink from the stencil on to the paper, creating a soft edge. After all the inking was completed, I rubbed away the rubber cement with my finger. The inked sun is perfectly protected from the blue ink we added – perfect masking! And – since it was so easy – I created six cards in total.

I used WOW Platinum Sparkling embossing powder to heat emboss a variety of sentiments from the Simon Says Stamp Hand Lettered Encouragement stamp set on each of the cards. (Make sure to use a anti-static tool before embossing because the embossing powder may stick to the Distress Ink. I also used my MISTI stamping tool for perfect alignment.) For a finishing touch, I placed my stencil back over the sun and sprayed some Shimmer Spritz for added shine.

For dimension, I added the stamped pieces to notecards with a piece of fun foam between. Oh – and don’t forget the envelope! I love to have my envelopes match my cards so I used some Wild Honey Distress Ink and the sun stencil and applied it to the back of each Hero Arts envelope.

This Simon Says Stamp Hand Lettered Encouragement stamp set is by far one of my favorites of all time. I am a big fan of sending encouraging cards to others. I think we can all use encouragement, support and cheerleading from our friends. I can’t wait to send these cards of kindness in the mail!

BLOG HOP

This post is part of the Simon Says Stamp Hop To It Blog Hop… celebrating their newest release of products.

The newest SSS products are fantastic. Most of the products are designed by two of my best friends – Kristina Werner and Shari Carroll. I am so proud of them and am their biggest cheerleaders. I don’t personally create product (it isn’t something I feel a calling to do – nor have the talent) so I appreciate their amazing designs!

Here is a look at the newest release. I plan to use many of these on my blog soon. (If my kids ever go back to school after these snow days – lol.)

The next stop on the hop is the blog of one of my other favorite people (I am the president of her fan club – ha) — Debby Hughes. (You can also start at the beginning of the hop at the SSS blog.)

Interested in winning a Simon Says Stamp Prize pack? For your chance, leave a comment telling me which of the new products are your favorites (you can find them HERE or above) by 2/23/15. SSS will randomly pick and post a winner on their blog. Good luck!
