Video: Shaker Cards + GIVEAWAY

Well, I am back with a few more shaker cards! I promise to do something different again soon, but I found a product and was itchin’ to use it and share it with you. (Warning: This is a long post but I have a giveaway as a thank you!)

In past videos, I have shared a few different ways to do shaker cards. (See a list below.) But then I found out about a product that Impression Obsession has – Shake It Pouches. These are windows that have some dimension built in to them. I couldn’t find the Shake Its in stores (they have been out awhile), so I emailed IO. And I am so glad I did! The whole line of Shake It products are fun for anyone who likes making shaker cards. (You can see the line HERE.)

The video shows how easy these cards are to put together. And it is such fun picking goodies to go inside! I added die cut tiny hearts, Moonshine sequins, heart beads, Color Cast Designs acrylic/mirror hearts (love these!) and Pretty Pink Posh Heart Confetti.

I made another card very similar to the first, but with a few less goodies inside the shaker. Both cards feature a silver glitter paper “hugs” die cut and white Staz-On stamped messages from Papertrey Ink. (When stamping on acetate with Staz-On, keep alcohol swabs on hand. You can easily erase any mistakes you make!

Although there are dies to match the square Shake Its, I decided to instead create the window opening and frame with the My Favorite Things Stitched Square Stax dies. For the background, I used the Simon Says Stamp Falling Hearts stencil and Hero Arts Soft Granite Shadow Ink on Avery Elle Silver Fox cardstock. Yum! (Sorry – these are hard to photograph.)

And while I had my supplies out, I decided to make a third card. (These card designs are great for using things you have on hand already and have been wanting to use, such as background stamps, stencils, embellishments and more.)

For this card, I decided to adhere the Color Cast Designs LOVE embellishment inside the shaker window so it would be still and centered while the loose heart confetti and sequins moved around. You could do this with wood veneer, die cuts – anything at all. I stamped the background with Simon Says Stamp Slate Ink and the ol’-stand-by Impression Obsession Fizz background.

These Shake It windows are impressively durable, but do have dimension (maybe 1/4″?) so I would suggest hand-delivering them or mailing them in a bubble mailer. I mail a lot of my cards in THESE bubble mailers and they are great. Inexpensive to mail and perfect for protecting any handmade card.

THANK YOU

I also wanted to thank you all for sticking with me over the last few weeks. I haven’t been around much as I focus on family. I appreciate the kind words and sweet messages. I know it would be wonderful if I had a “blogging schedule” (like Monday, Wednesday, Saturday or something), but I just don’t feel I can commit to that when my family comes first. So some weeks I will post 6 times… others will be much less. But do know I will always come back and give you my best. I love sharing this hobby. And I appreciate you all.

GIVEAWAY

Since you stuck around through this long post, I have a giveaway! A lucky winner will get FIVE packs of Color Cast Designs embellishments! (This is donated by me – so I will send my favorites.) For your chance, leave a comment telling me if you love shaker cards by 11:59pmEST on 2/5/15.
