Video: Watercolor and Stamping… + Blog Hop + GIVEAWAYS

Hi there! I have lots to share with you today. My video – which shares tips for watercolor and stamping – is part of the CASE Study 4th Anniversary blog hop. (More on that below.) Also, I have several ways you can win some fun giveaways.

Yep… I still am on my watercolor kick! However, it just doesn’t come natural to me. Today’s video shares tips that I have found are key for me achieving a watercolor look I am happy with. The biggest tip? Let the water do the work for you. Another big tip? Get some good watercolor. Today’s video shows the Gansai Tambi watercolor set. Yes, the colors are creamy and gorgeous, but the price tag is a bit high. But it really is worth it to me because I get better results and it includes a pearly white and shiny gold. (My other favorite form of watercolor is still the Peerless. Both are amazing and both act the same *in my eyes* when painting. I am not an expert! But I have tried *a lot* and found that these two are the easiest for a non-expert to work with.)

The lovely images I used on this card are from the Altenew Persian Motifs stamp set. I heat embossed them on watercolor paper with WOW Silver Pearl embossing powder. (This stuff is GORGEOUS.) I then painted with the Gansai Tambi watercolor, my new favorite brush and water. If you look closely you will see some pearly shine and some gold shine. Yep – those were done with the metallic watercolor included in this set. (However, if you don’t have these watercolors, you can make your own pearlized water with Perfect Pearls.)

I also heat embossed the My Favorite Things Diagonal background stamp with the WOW Silver Pearl embossing powder on the notecard. It is stunning how it picks up the pool color of the cardstock. I added a “Hello” embellishment that matches the softness of the card. I got this from Color Cast Designs – I love their pieces! This one was perfect for this card.

  1. Just purchased my first Altenew stamp set(Magnolia’s for her) from Ellen Hutson a couple of weeks back, and I’m yet to use it. I’m gonna try casing your card with that 😉 Absolutely love your take on Tasnim’s beauty.

And you are soooo pushing me to adding that Gansai Tambi set into my cart. I wonder if I could buy the smaller set and then use my perfect pearls for getting that shimmer with these watercolors. Will it work??

  2. I love the look of that watercolour set, it looks so soft, almost like lipstick and the results look amazing. Must try this if I can get my hands on some larger floral stamps sometime in the future.

  3. I Love love loooveee the look of this card. I am not much of an artist. but you really changed my mind about going in to watercolours. 🙂 Thank you so much for the inspiration.

  4. I think I may over wet my paper, or perhaps not using the best quality. I end up having pills. I love the look of this card, and when I first saw the blue edge I thought it was washi. Thanks Jennifer!

  5. What a beautiful card! I have been trying my hand at watercoloring stamped images but not with much success so far! Your fantastic video has been a big help and I can’t wait to sit down and try again. Thanks!

  6. Totally love your design and Tasnim’s inspiration card. The images are gorgeous and your watercoloring is spectacular. You are so humble about your painting but I’ve been oohing and aahing over anything you watercolor. I tried several brands of paints, too and finally splurged and got the Gansai Tambi set. Can’t wait to play with them. Thanks so much for sharing your talent with all of us and another helpful tutorial and introducing me to Tasnim and her Altenew brand.

  7. I just love both of these cards! These blues are my favorite color combinations and the stamp is so gorgeous! You both are so inspiring. I really want this stamp, hope I win! Thanks Jennifer.

  8. Wonderful video thanks Jennifer – it has inspired me to have another ‘go’ at watercolours. Love those stamps that you have used 🙂
    Blessings

  9. Hi Jen sweetie. Love this card today, and I can understand why you keep doing water color cards, they just seem to flow so nicely and look like a masterpiece every time. I love my water color pencils and paper. I think I love it even more than stamping with ink. Lol. Thanks for sharing another wonderful video and supply list. Hope your doing well. HUgs.

  10. Love your watercolour technique!!! Wow, this is an absolutely mind blowing creation!!! Love the touch of soft colours with metallic effect and the diagonal stripes:). Thanks for sharing the wonderful tutorial!!!

  11. I may have commented on this already but if not I want to make sure I did. That is one gorgeous card Jennifer! You had great inspiration too. Both are very nice. The Altenew stamps are really nice looking. Thanks for the great tips on watercoloring too!

  12. That stamp set is my favorite from Altenew’s new release! I just love it! And the colors you used on it are my favorites in all the world! Everything about your card is just delightful!

  13. I loved this video, I really like how you used the watercolours on these. The blog hop is great but I am actually more interested in these gorgeous stamps, I am looking thorught my stash for something to make a card similar to yours but don’t have any clean line flowers like these. BTW, my boyfriend says hello too, he falls asleep beside me everynight while I look at your videos on the ipad and now he’s started saying “It’s Jenny time” when it’s time to go to bed. The other day he made me show him your blog and photo, I asked why and he said “Hey, I want to at least know with whom I go to bed everyday”. I find it hilarious. x-D

  14. Thank you for the watercolor tips. The card is absolutely beautiful! I really like the shimmer of the pearl embossing powder.

  15. Fantastic coloring on this and I love the finished card. How fun to find inspiration in the mail. Thanks for the links. I love this watercolor set. I’ll be on the hunt for it for sure.

  16. Just wanted to let you know how pretty your water color card is!! Unable to view the video, the link is broken.

  17. Who EVER would have thought it was the BRUSH. OH MY GOSH. Not even the same flower. The BRUSH. Wow. Just WOW, I’m madly in love with this stupid tiny itty bitty teeny weeny brush. NOW i may have to get the owl stamp.
