I love a fun, inky background. In this video, I use a combination of products to create a night sky scene. I started by creating Embossing Paste stars on white cardstock using the Hero Arts Stars stencil After adding lots of Distress Ink on top of the entire piece once it was dry, I applied drips of various mixes of water, Perfect Pearls and Hero Arts Unicorn Mist. All together, the layers and colors give a fun look of dimension…

The fabulous WPlus9 Lucky Stars sentiment is perfect for this card, so I white heat embossed it on vellum along with die cut glitter paper stars.

Check out how the Embossing Paste stars don’t ink as much (with the Distress Inks) as the background… allowing them to stand out. Love this. So very, very cool.

  1. This card is amazing. I love the colors of the ink that you blended for the night sky. I watched the video that you mentioned about using the Press and Seal and it was very interesting. I use this product all the time and would have never dreamed to use it in card making.

LOVELVOELOVE your sky background card!! Will be trying this when my star stencil arrives!!! Soon, I hope! TFS and looking forward to your next post!

  4. I like that you provided a number of ways to create various background looks. I’d be interested in seeing other ways to use the Hero Arts sprays. I don’t know many techniques using sprays/mists.

  5. So incredibly, dreamily, wonderfully beautiful, Jennifer! I’ll echo the others: a gorgeous card and we are, indeed, blessed that you share your creative gifts with us!

  6. That card is gorgeous! I keep adding things to my wish list. Do you think the Hero Arts White Spray is more intense for flicking on the card than the Hero Arts White Dauber? I have the dauber and if I can save some money by not buying the spray, that would be great because now I need embossing paste and that stamp set…along with lots more.

  7. I don’t own any WPlus9 stamps YET! I’ve been watching all the cool blogs with their products and am looking forward to purchasing some of their products. Of course, as always, your card is magnificent!

  8. Beautiful background! How do you keep your vellum from crinkling when you heat emboss it? I’ve tried a really heavy weight vellum, but it still crinkles a little.

  9. Sorry about the previous comment w/ the question on the vellum. I commented before I watched the video. Thanks!

  10. Love the Starry Night! You mentioned that you make a lot of Thank You cards….any suggestions for sympathy cards that can be made a few at a time? Thanks so much for sharing your ideas!

  11. Gorgeous card and background..the colors you used make the perfect night sky.

  15. Such a beautiful background and card. Really enjoy your techniques, and feel inspired to try them. Even when you are sharing a product release you are coming up with ideas that I think, what stamps have I got that that technique could translate to. You are so very talented. We are so lucky to be on the receiving end!
