Video: Stencils, Distress Ink + Water
Hi there! Yesterday I shared a video from my friend Sandy Allnock showing a magical technique with Copic Markers and stencils. Well, I am back today with a video inspired by hers. Instead of using the markers, blending solution and a stencil, I used Distress Inks, water and a stencil. It is like magic – such a cool technique!

Ahhhh… Distress Inks + water + stencils + shine… it all makes me so happy. For this unique background, I started by generously applying Distress Inks to white cardstock with an inking tool. (You can try other dye inks, but Distress will work best since they react with water so well.) I then added the fun Halftone Circles stencil on top. In order to add water over the stencil in a controlled and non-oozy way, I used a clean ink blending tool… gently dabbing the water on top. Slowly – as the water absorbs into the ink – the water and ink will react and make a ghost like pattern. So. Very. Cool. I also added Perfect Pearls pigment powder to the water for some fun shine. (You could skip this part for more subtle dots.)
I die cut a large heart from white cardstock and covered it very generously with Pumice Stone Distress Ink. This will give a dull grey color, but after adding water and Perfect Pearls, you get a silvery heart that is stunning. (For gold, use Antique Linen Distress Ink and Perfect Pearls.) I finished it off with a Savvy Stamps Thanks die cut (sorry – it is a hard one to find – just click “tell me when it is back in stock!” – see more on this below) and a fun “I love working with you” message from the MFT At the Office stamp set. (Lots of good, unique sentiments in this one.)
NOTE
I noticed that many of these products are out of stock at the stores I link to. However, I have checked with the stores and they all have been re-ordered (awhile ago) and expected back in stock very soon. Sorry! For a similar die, try the Paper Smooches Thanks die and for a similar stencil, try the Memory Box Textured Mini Dots stencil.
