2 Videos: Resist with Color & SSS Release Close-Up + Blog Hop + GIVEAWAY

Hello! Today I have TWO videos for you. The first is shows a new spin on an old technique – – resist with color. The second is a product release close-up video showing the newest round of Simon Says Stamp products. This post is also part of the SSS This Is The Life Blog Hop with giveaways! (More on that below.)

As much as I enjoy taking a product and giving it a new look, I enjoy even more taking an old technique and giving it new life. Here, I took the old school resist technique and added some color to it. For this technique, you need a paper with a good coating on it, such as the Ranger Specialty Stamping Paper. This paper has a matte coating that is divine and is great for many techniques. (Note: You can use any ol’ glossy paper for this technique, too!) I first stamped the various Simon Says Stamp Friendly Flower images in different shades of dye ink. (I used Hero Arts Shadow and SSS inks.) After heat setting them, I stamped on top of the images with Versamark. This “traps” the color underneath… protecting it from the next step.

After heat setting the images completely, I covered the stamp piece with LOTS of SSS Audrey Blue and Island Blue inks, wiping away the excess ink. The Versamark “resists” the blue inks. So cool. The finish reminds me of a colored marble. You could even mix colors together for interest. I finished off the flowers with some white pen detailing. (Although I would skip this step if I ever did this card again.)

I also did a bit of die cut inlaying with the new SSS With Sympathy and Frames Dies. Love the look of a smooth panel when I am done!

PRODUCT RELEASE CLOSE-UP VIDEO

In the past I have shared a few product release close-upvideos… giving a close look at the products in a particular release and ideas on how to use them. (I only do this if I am inspired by an entire product release from a company.) Here is a video featuring the new Simon Says Stamp This Is The Life release

In the video, I briefly shared this card. I am not in love with it as a whole, but like parts of it. I used the SSS Ice Cream Cones with with a bit of Distress Ink added with a blending tool for shading. The sprinkles were added with a white pen, and I covered the “awesome” die cut with my favorite silver glitter embossing powder. The card is actually one of the adorable dotted Lawn Fawn notecards turned inside out. (The die actually cuts “pawesome” but I just removed the “p” to make it different! And the “you are” is stamped from the SSS Pawesome stamp set.) A super fast card for my 16-year-old.
