Video: Glitter Background

Hi! Today I have a video showing a oh-so-very-cool glitter background. This is one of those cards that looks incredible in real life – I wish I could send a card to all of you out there to see. And believe it or not – it is very simple to make.

[All supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this post.]

Background dies are becoming more popular these days. And with the higher price point of these dies, I am a big fan of finding many ways to use them. This background die from Memory Box is so detailed and fantastic!

The process is easier to do than it is to explain. 🙂 I started by adding double-sided Be Creative Tape to a cardstock panel. I then used the Memory Box Mod Flower die to cut through the release paper side of my panel. I selected areas of release paper to take off to reveal the adhesive behind. Next, I added the lovely super fine Glitter Ritz glitter (colors linked in thumbnails below) and burnished it in place. (The glitter stays put VERY well.) I then moved on to removing even more release paper and adding more glitter. Throughout the process, I kept my work surface clean with Swiffer Dusting Cloths. Boy, does using them make a BIG difference. The final results? Smooooooth glitter paper. Yum.

Wanna see the resulting shimmer catching the light? Check out my mini Instagram video HERE.

The greeting is from the very-popular-and-hard-to-find Mama Elephant Make a Wish stamp set. (Which is back in stock now!) I heat embossed it with Liquid Platinum embossing powder. Simple.

I am always a fan of when you can make two cards at once, so I used the remaining circle from above for a second card.

I had been wanting to use the Ali Edwards Fabulous Die and it worked perfectly here.  I stamped the “you are” using a Winnie and Walter set and added my favorite Studio Calico sequins. Easy peasy.

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Wonderful idea for a background die. I do love the glitter you used too – it gives a classy look. Thanks for the video!

  2. I love that die. It’s on the wish list but as you say they are a bit pricey so having to save a few pennies first. This is such a gorgeous effect.

  3. Hi Jennifer,
I loved this card. I recreated it using STickles dry fine glitter. I also used the Sizzix adhesive sheets. It did not turn out nearly as well as yours (in fact it was kind of a disaster). Also, even with all of your wonderful tips for clean-up, the Stickles got away from me! I will probably have glitter all over my craft room for the next 10 years! LOL! Thanks for sharing this. Hoping Glitter Ritz is back in stock soon at all these stores listed. I think it will make a big difference.

  4. That card is amazing and so beautiful! Thanks so much for the really informative video too, it really helps explain the process much better than written instructions. Now that i can see all the different effects you can create with background dies, i’m definitely putting some on my wishlist!

  5. Hi! I tried this but I can’t get it to cut at all without a shin! With the shim it cuts all the way thru. Helps!!
