Video: DIY Stencils and Colored Embossing Paste + Giveaway!

Hello! Today’s video shows DIY stencils and colored embossing paste. Both are easy and such a great way to stretch your supplies…

[All supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this post.]

Creating your own stencils is very easy. I used a large sunshine die to cut two pieces of cardstock and layered them together. This “stencil” works very well with embossing paste.

For the colored paste, I pressed yellow ink onto my craft sheet and mixed in some white paste. You can do this with pretty much any ink you may have! You can also try coloring paste with paints.

To prevent too much contrast between a plain white background and the bright yellow paste, I first stamped the background repeatedly with Soft Vanilla ink and a sentiment from the Simon Says Stamp Watts Up stamp set. (This is part of the new April Card Kit. This is my favorite yet. SO good.) I then used the “stencil” and colored paste over the background and immediately added sparkly embossing powder. The paste holds the powder well and when heated, leaves the paste with a fine shimmer.

I used my favorite embossing powder – Liquid Platinum – to create the lightbulb on vellum. In my poor planning, I didn’t leave a place for a stamped sentiment! Oops. So I die cut a “love you” sentiment and stuck it right on top of the card. Love this solution.

And I will be honest – this card wasn’t my first try. I created a piece and wasn’t thrilled with it. (There wasn’t enough room in the center of the rays for the lightbulb.) However, I very rarely pitch anything! So I saved the piece and turned it into this bonus card…

When in doubt, add a red die cut heart covered with Wink of Stella shimmer and Glossy Accents. 🙂 The sentiments on this card are also from the SSS Watts Up set.

EMBOSSING POWDER CONTAINERS

A few weeks ago I shared how I store my favorite embossing powders… and I showed it again in this video. I am *really* happy with this system and how compact it is. I use small containers with a cable clip stuck in the lid to hold a mini spoon. Many people have emailed me since the cable clips I used are no longer available on Amazon. I checked out two other options that work well. One is a tiny little clear clip that pinches the spoon in place. The other is a slightly bigger clear clip that would hold a bigger spoon as well as the mini. Both work fine. Here you can see all three options attached to the lid of the container – the small clear, the big clear and the original. All are great and hopefully something will work for you…
