Video: Die Cut Inlay + CASE Study Challenge
I am back with more for my spot as the guest muse over at the CASE Study Challenge Blog. Each month they take a few older cards from a guest muse and use them as inspiration for new ideas. What a great way to stay inspired! I will be doing 4 of these challenges this month and this is #3. (You can find #1 HERE and #2 HERE.)
Today’s inspiration is from THIS card I created awhile back…
Here is a video showing the four cards I created inspired by this card…
This technique is awesome because it results in two cards.
So I called this technique “die cut inlay” because it reminds of the look of wood inlays. Basically, you end up with a smooth surface even with the die cutting. For this one, that white butterfly fits in to the butterfly opening, filling it and making it one layer. So cool in real life.
Here is the second card, using the leftover pieces from the first…
You can see the inlay effect better here – the stripes fit in to the opening on the white. Just like a puzzle. (Maybe I should have called it the “puzzle technique?”)
This would work great with any two die shapes. You could do a bird in a heart, a star in a circle, a word in a frame – anything! They don’t have to be the same shape… just different sizes.
Here is another pair of examples. This time I just used one die – the Thank(s) die from Memory Box. I love this die because it can cut “thanks” or “thank you.” Awesome.
Love that thin die cut resting between the cardstock strips. If fits in easily, like a puzzle piece.
And then it’s opposite. Simple and sweet…
Look at the detail of color in the die cut…
There you have it – a fun technique for die cutting.
