Card Drive Update & Shares

Before I share some projects, I thought I would give an update on the Card Drive.  Here are a few things:

  • I still have to go through the packages I have received in the last week and get them added to the list of people.  Once I get them all in (probably a week or so), we will start picking winners of the 90+ prizes.  Jana and Kristina are going to help me, along with a sweet angel who contacted me from here locally who said she would help.  (Thanks, Mary Kay!)
  • Instead of announcing the 90+ winners all at once, I likely will announce them over the course of several weeks.  This will make shipping easier and make it more fun. πŸ™‚
  • You are still welcome to send Cards for Kate!  (See below.)
  • If you want to send encouragement/sympathy cards for Eric's family, please do so.  Kathy said I can send them to her and she will personally deliver them to his family.  She thinks they would appreciate it.  So, please, send them in!  (Also, any cards that have come in recently for Eric will be passed along, too.)

Now… time for a new Card Drive!  Here is what I am thinking:

  • I am going to come up with a list of children who need some love in their mailbox – between 5 and 10 kids.  (Kate will be one of the children.)  I will post the kids info here.  If you are interested in making cards, you can send them to any of the children/families.
  • I am looking for kids who could use our cards.  Please email me if you know of anyone.  A few of you contacted me before.  I don't want to miss anyone, so please email me again to remind me.  It would be helpful if the child has a website that updates us on how they are doing, since many will be interested.
  • This will be an ongoing card drive.  At the beginning of each month, I will announce some prizes. At the end of each month, I will draw names for prizes.  The number of prizes will depend on the number of children.  Say we have 10 children… there will be 10 prizes.  (Example: If you send in cards for Child 1 and Child 4, you will be eligible for Prize 1 and Prize 4.  So, for your best chance at winning, be sure to send in cards for each child. πŸ™‚
  • More details and info will be shared soon.  In the meantime, feel free to continue to send cards for Kate and contact me if you have info on a child who we could collect cards for.

Thanks so much, everyone.  Hope this makes sense.  I do believe in the power of one person reaching out to others… even if it is through a card.

Next, how about some sharing?  2Peas just posted lots of new projects.  Here are mine, followed by some great ones created by other girls there.

These are gift bags I made for Colin's teachers.  I love layering die cut shapes for dimension.  (Click HERE for more info.)

Here are some pencils for his teachers, too.  (I like to give them gifts here and there.  Little handmade things.)  So easy to make using those rockin' Sassafrass flowers.

Here are some of my favorites:

  • Kelli Crowe is so fun… and so are THESE great cards.  I am so doing this.
  • Mary is amazing and HERE is proof.
  • Jen G is soooo good.
  • Great holiday card ideas HERE.

Oh, and I normally don't like to bore you all with family stuff, but I couldn't resist sharing this. πŸ™‚

Off to catch up on email – once again.  Night. πŸ™‚

  1. You’re just too sweet! Love the idea of continuing the card drive for other kids… prizes or no prizes. πŸ™‚
Thanks for all the fun links too.
Finally… what a cute little man in uniform you have there. πŸ˜‰

  2. super cute outfit and Colin looks great!

I am sure that continuing “cards for kids” is a great idea…love that things will continue, again, prizes or no prizes.

thanks for letting us join in!

  3. Jennifer,

Thank you for all you do. I love the updates of family and think you are amazing for opening up the doors for so many of us to give. I have been really busy making cards for heroes (Operation Write Home) but will be making some more cards for these kiddos soon. I actually have someone that I would like to recommend to receive cards. Taylor Love. I have to say that I do not know them well. They attend the church that my family and I attended in Ashburn, VA. Taylor has has neuroblastoma for years now and has been undergoing horrible treatment for it. She is one of several children in the family so the parents have a lot on their plate. Her story can be found here. I know that there are so many kiddos that are sick and need a LOT of love but she is worth considering, I think.

  4. Hi, Jennifer!
It’s wonderful the idea of ongoing card for the kids. It surely make them happier sending love in form of these little artworks and from so many different people and places. I believe their families will be so inspired by these acts of kindness!
As for your little cute fireman, I’m happy to say I got mine too last night(for our church’s family party). I wish I could find the boots but my little boy was happy enough with his hat and coat already…
Happy Week for you and your family!

  5. Love all your wonderful giving ideas. The pencil idea is so cute. I’m sure Colin’s teachers love having you as a parent in his classroom. Speaking of Colin…He looked absolutely adorable in his fireman outfit. He has a gorgeous happy smile. I really do enjoy all the sharing you do with all of us in blogland. It makes you more human. Have a good week!

Love that the card drive is continuing. Maybe I can finally get more sent in. I will make it a point to try.
Like the gift bags, and the pencils.
    Thanks for sharing.

  8. what about just giving a box of cards to all the kids on the Oncology floor where Kate goes? that would be neat. they could just make sure each kid gets at least one card/sticker set etc. Kate could deliver them!
I think it’s amazing that you do these jennifer!!!
    love the pencil idea! tara

  9. What a great and generous thing to do, to keep the card drive going! Thank you for doing this and for letting us do our part. Colin is sooooo cute it his Fire fighter suit, especially those cute boots!

  10. Hi Jennifer,

Love the great gift giving ideas…. I always like to see what you come up with. I really like the pencil idea as I think it is not only pretty but practical. Silly question, but did you tie the ribbon on first and then add the cute flowers or is it all attached some other way? I am thinking of making some of these for my co workers…. thanks!

Love seeing the all your photos of the family…..thanks too for the card update information.

  11. Jennifer

Colin is so adorable as a mini fireman. I bet he had a good go of trick or treating this year.

Great treat bags and pencils. Love how you embellished them.

Card drive is hard work, thanks for doing this for others. If I hear of a child in need I will pass it on. If you need help let me know.

  12. Hi Jennifer πŸ™‚ Hope you and your family had a fun Halloween! Thank you so very much for being the wonderful and caring person that you are! I have followed Kate’s story and have prayed daily for her and her family. My son has a classmate that is 8 years old and has been undergoing treatment for a brain tumor. He and his mom left today for St. Judes (Memphis, TN) to begin his 4 months of chemo. If there is room in the card drive for Zack, I know that he and his family would be so thankful. He is the oldest of 3 boys (Ryan-6 & Chase-1). Thanks again…now off to make some cards!!!

  13. I just recently found your blog and so glad that I did!! I love these butterflies! I bet your son’s teachers just love you. πŸ™‚ He is so cute!

Great idea with the card drive. Made me think about people in my own life who could use a card….Thanks!!

  14. Jennifer…Your little Fireman is just precious…Always love to see his sweet face!
Your little gifty’s are so special…..The teachers are so lucky to have Colin in their class!!

  15. I can’t find your email on your site so I’m hoping you read all of your messages here…Chloe needs cards and prayers. She has very recently been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and has just started treatment. Her web site is On that site is the address to send cards to her.

  16. Oh my gosh Jennifer!Colin is just too cute! He looks like such a big boy in his little fire man suit! I swear he got bigger since your last post. too cute! I love the butterfly idea… I would never have thought to roll the glue dots to give a little dimension to a project…great tip. Thank you for sharing!!

  17. Blast from the past alert. One more thing, I think it is so fun to see pictures of your son. I was going thru some old books for inspiration and one of the LO’s you had published was a series of questions to your grand father who passed away. One of the questions was “will I ever have a boy?” So everytime I see his cute little face on your projects I think of that LO, which was beautiful btw. thanks for letting me share=)
