Prayers are needed for my Music Man.. and a card

Hi!

When we were in St. John, we got some sad news from Keith.  (Keith is my brother-in-law whose music I use in my videos.  He and his family are missionaries in Africa.)  His father, who has been battling cancer, was only expected to make it through the night.  The next day, their family of 5 flew the 30 hour journey from Africa to San Antonio in hopes of getting there before he passed.  Thankfully, they did.  On Father's Day, Keith's dad passed away with him at his side.

(The stamp on this card is from VersesMy local stamp store owner owns this company and they make great greeting stamps like this one.  You can call them if you want to buy anything.  They are fabulous there!  I really like to support local and USA-made stamp companies.)

Supplies:

Verses stamp

Making Memories, Bo Bunny and Scenic Route papers

Hero Arts pearls and flowers and notecard

Creative Impressions silk ribbon

If you are the praying kind, please keep their family in your prayers as they heal.  They do so much for others… such good people.  They will be in the States for a couple weeks before heading back home to Liberia.

This also got me thinking.  As a cardmaker, I know how uplifting it is to get a simple handmade card in the mail.  Makes you feel loved and happy, right?  Well, I was thinking it would be fun to send Keith and Kristin's kids – Taylor, Lauren and Samuel – a bunch of cards.  Just encouragement cards.  These three kids are living an adventure.  Finding new friends in a foreign world.  Living extremely simply as they wait for their home to be built.  I am sure it is hard on them, even if it is good for them, too.  I would love for them to know that a bunch of people out there are thinking of them.  So, here is my question: if I set up something for you to make cards for them to send over to them, would you be interested?  I would just have you send them to me and I would put a huge box together and send them over to them.  Their parents could give them a card every once in awhile as a pick-me-up.  I think they would love it.  Would anyone be interested in participating?

Here is a picture of the kids in front of the home they are staying in right now.

They have a long path ahead of them. They also are working on the dental clinic where they will be doing work.  I can't imagine. But, boy – they are doing such good for our world.

Just a thought… let me know what you think.  I am not one to ask for money/donations. But giving in this way could be fun, easy, rewarding… and an excuse to do some cardmaking. 🙂

Thanks for listening!  God bless all you gals out there… 🙂

  1. First of all, condolences to Keith’s family and extended family in their loss. Secondly, stampers LOVE to make cards for any reason and what better than to send uplifting, encouraging messages. Yes! Yes! Yes! You’ll get a ton of positive responses, I guarantee you!

  2. I am fairly new to your website. Carol at Stampers Corner gave me the address. Initially i was so happy to get cardmaking info. Now I have a chance to participate in a very special project. If you don’t mind getting variations of cards you have on line, i would be pleased to participate. Now that I am “hooked up” at home, i will be a pest. Ha. I am a big huge avid fan of Hero Arts. And you too!!!!

I am so sorry for Keith’s loss on father’s day. You can count on me to make some cards for them. If you do not mind, some will be close in style that are taught in your class, your blog and HA blog.

I think his family will love it!

    Thanks

  4. I’m sorry for your BILs loss. That is very sad. Keith and his family are very special people for how they dedicate their lives. I would certainly love to contribute.
I have found myself in situations where I need to send a condolence card with little notice, so a few months ago, I made a few to have ready. The greeting stamp is perfect for this situation. I hope your family is doing well…

  5. I’m in… I’ll even have my kidlets help.. my dd loves to make cards…

And I am so sorry for Keith’s loss… How wonderful he got to say goodbye to his Dad…I’m sure it meant a lot to both of them, in a bittersweet way…

  6. so sorry to hear about your brother-in-laws loss. that is so nice that they were able to get back in time to spend his last moments with him.

i’d be totally willing to send some cards. i think it’s a great idea … and would mean a lot to them!

  7. Hi Jennifer, I am always happy to comment in hopes of winning blog candy, so you had better bet that I am even happier to help you with such a sweet gesture of love. Just tell me where to send the cards! A friend of mine has just endured a similar situation. While we were across the country in Seattle for work, she got word that her Dad, who had been battling cancer for about a year was refusing treatment and had very little time left. She made it home in time to say everything she wanted to say to him and said that afterward she felt “at peace”. I believe with all of my heart that he held on until she could return to say goodbye; he died less than 48 hours later on Memorial Day. Family bonds are such strong, amazing and beautiful gifts that God has blessed us with. It reminds me to CHERISH every moment with the ones I love. To me that is what scrap booking is . . . documenting and cherishing the moments of our lives that we have been given, and celebrating them, that is why I love it so much! Along with the cards I will send a prayer for up for your family too. 🙂

  8. Sorry for your BIL’s loss….It must have been tough on the family and I’m sure they were exhausted when they arrived…. I would also like to make a card, just let me know where to send it….Hugs to everyone…

I would love to send an uplifting card to Taylor, Lauren and Samuel – I can even get my 3-year old twins in on the action. I know they would love to draw something for them.

    Just let us know! 🙂

  10. So sorry for the loss of Keith’s Father, but glad they did get to say “goodbye for now” in person.
I would love to make some fun kids cards! I’m sure they won’t mind that most of my stamps are discontinued. *(snicker)* Do the kids have any favorite sports? Animals? Colors? Holidays? I assume you don’t want them in sealed envelopes. ( If I were a parent in this situation, I would want to read the cards first…. OH! Maybe you want blank cards! You said ” Just encouragement cards” . Could you clarify this for me, please? Do you need them in an envelope, or since the parents are going to hand them to the kids, or hide them under their pillows for them to find, they may prefer not to have the extra bulk of envelopes for the TON of mail you are going to send them! Plus, it is “greener” not to use envelopes that just get thrown away….. ahgh! Too much thinking. Must sleep. Great idea, Jennifer. Night-night!

  11. I’m sorry to hear about your brother-in-law losing his father. I love that your card talks about how prayers and thoughts sustain us during the most difficult of times. I am sorry for your BIL’s loss. I will be thinking of him and his family during their time of healing. I’m sure his strong faith and support of his wonderful family will get them through.

Count me in on the cards. I would be more than happy to make some.

  38. Hi Jennifer, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this sad time. I completely understand what they are going through as my mother died suddenly a few months ago and I am still struggling with my loss. I find comfort in those who write and call and also in the hobby I shared with my mum, the love of all things crafty and especially rubber stamping and card making. I would love to help someone else through a difficult time with a cheery card and all the way from the UK!!

  39. So sorry about Keith’s father. Please count me in on the cards. I can’t send one until July 8th, being out of the country, but would love to be part of the project.
