Kids Cards… and a giveaway…

Thanks for the posts and many emails about the card drive.  It will be fun!  Yep, after I get all the cards, I will photograph and share the big pile here.

Kay (my 13-year-old-step-daughter-who-I-adore-and-is-my-big-helper) is going to put the prize packages together tomorrow.  She is so excited!  Hope to show pictures this weekend.

I thought I would share three cards I made for the kids.  It uses adorable little cards from Stampin’ Up.  They are such fun!

Hero Art stamps (animals, balloons and greetings, background) and gems

Memories Black Ink

Stampin’ Up little cards

Creative Impressions silk ribbon

Other: circle punches, colored pencils and gamsol

A few people wanted to know what to write in the inside of the cards.  You don’t have to write much – just say you are sending smiles or something and sign it, along with where you are from.  Or, you can get more creative.  Erin Lincoln was the first to send a card for the drive and I love the clever thing she wrote inside!  🙂 Erin, thank you so much.  Adore you.  Here it her fab card…

By the way, if you aren’t a cardmaker, you can send a store-bought card.  Someone who is currently traveling emailed me and send they are sending a postcard – that is a great idea!  Really, anything goes.  And if I get a TON of cards, I will let you know and we can instead start sending cards in for our local children’s hospital.

And, since you all have stuck around long enough to read this far, I have a giveaway! 🙂  Just leave a comment here telling me something that you are dying to try in scrapbooking/cardmaking.  Be sure to leave it by tomorrow at 11:59pmEDT.  I will pick a random winner and send them a copy of the Designing With Recipe Book!

Thanks again, all!  I have some videos coming soon.  Off to work on my PS video.  Smooch!

  1. I have always wanted to use my sewing machine on my cards or pages. I have hand sewn before and that was fun, but I would like to try using a zigzap stitch or fun overlapping stitching. I am just so intimidated by my sewing machine!!!!

  2. i’d love to try entering one of the scrapbook contests. the idea of tons of new products really appeals to me. hubby is pushing me to enter more things lately, so maybe i will.

  3. Jennifer

Love the cards you made so very cute!!!! Love the HA stamps on the card too!!!

I picked up “Stamp It!” mag. at Kroger this morning. I really love this months issue. Lots of two-step and tone on tone stamping. I can not wait to use some of these ideas on the cards I am making for the children.

Thanks for the chance to win this cool book.

  4. Great idea for the card drive! I’ll need to get to work on mine!

Two things popped into my mind that I’d like to try: alcohol inks (They seem cool, but messy, and I don’t usually like messy!), and I’m dying to try the new Making Memories Slice just as soon as it gets here!! (I’ve heard they are coming in July!)

Thanks for all of your inspiration! I love your videos!

  5. I am dying to just try SCRAPPING again! I have spent all my free play time reading blogs, arranging and re-arranging my stamps and supplies for months. I have more sqare footage set aside for my craft than anyone needs and I seem to crop only when I have my girls over.
I have been making cards , so I haven’t lost my mojo completely.
Love your blog by the way!

  6. What a wonderful idea to send cards to the kids! I will make some to send you first thing tomorrow!

I really need more ideas on how to use my stamps. I have tons of them, but hardly ever use them! =(

Thanks for the chance to win!

  7. I’ve just discovered your blog….it’s interesting, exciting…thanks!
I’m trying to make some ATCs at the moment.

  8. I would like to try making a clear page and use a transparency… they right one just hasn’t come along yet. 🙂 This card idea is such a good one! Thanks for spreading smiles. The world could use a few more of those.

  9. I’ve worked with dry embossing, but I would like to try out embossing and using a heat gun. Maybe some polymer clay thrown in for fun!

    Love your work!

  10. I’m way behind the times – I don’t do much with extra embellishments. i usually stick to paper and stickers, a very simple look. I just bought a Crop-a-dile and some eyelets, and I am looking forward to using them!

  11. I too want to try stamping on acetate! I have never heard of it till I watched your Tubes.. You make card making so easy and fun! Thanks for all you do….

  12. I’m dying to try anything, since it’s all so new to me! My mom just bought a cricket (sp?) so that’s where my mind is currently!

    Beautiful cards!

  13. I’d love to try out the alcohol inks on a transparency…have done it on a tin, but I the possibilities could be really cool..thanks.

  14. Cute! Erin L. is on the ball!

I want to go to my first “big name” class… I’ve never been able to go to CCU or attend a class taught by you or any other famous scrapbooker…it’s not what I want to try in a scrapbook or card, but it is related!

  15. I would like to try to incorporate some of my own calligraphy into my cards. I always use stamps for my words, and use calligraphy to address the envelopes, but I’d like to be more confident in using calligraphy within the card itself.

  16. Stamping on a transparency…that is a challenge for me that I would like to take. What a wonderful person you are to think about sick children. Nice idea.

  17. I would love to try doodling. I’ve never been much of a doodler but the pages I see using this technique are beacutiful.

  18. Great cards! Let’s see…what am I dying to try on my SB pages? I think I would like to try creating simple pages that focus more on journaling. Sometimes I forget the fun stories behind the photos and it would be nice to document those stories better. Being a graphic designer, I am usually more concerned about the aesthetics of the page than the journaling, but I’d like to change that. I think I can still make my pages look good while incorporating more of the story behind the photos.

  19. Hello Jennifer – I would love to try white UTEE. I know it’s been around a long time, but I just haven’t gotten to it! BTW, I really love your blog – it’s so uplifting and funny.

  20. Love the cards. Something I am dying to try huh…flocking oh and this foil technique I have been wanting to try for forever! 🙂

  21. I’m dying to get some nestabilities and some copic markers. They are both pretty pricey though!! I guess i’ll have to same!! LOL!!

  22. I would love to participate in this card drive and once I return from vacation, I plan to tell my friends at my local scrapbook store to assist me. I would love to try “inches” – like I saw on a video the other day as well as using the white crayon resist technique. So many things….so little time to spend just on card making and scrapbooking!!!

  23. Sending the cards-wonderful idea! Not much of a card maker, although I think they are beautiful! I just can’t think of what I would do with them if I started making them. I’ve tried dry embossing on some of my los thanks to you Jennifer & I love it!

  24. I would love to experiment with Die Cutting Machines. It looks like so much fun and endless possibilies. I am leaning toward the CuttleBug. Maybe I’ll mention it to Santa.

  25. I just love those cards Jennifer!!! 🙂 I just purchase my cuttlebug and i’m just staring at it and thinking right now… There are so many possibilities! Just have to get started! LOL

  26. I just bought some flock and I am dying to try it. I hope to do so today. I also want to emboss on vellum (like your video. Maybe tomorrow… 🙂

  27. I can’t wait for the new Cuttlebug Embossing folders coming out in a few weeks. They look awesome!

  28. Great idea!! The kids will love it. I would like to try working with Gemsol since i like the detailed stamps, but haven’t done it yet. This is inspiring!

  29. I LOVE YOUR BLOG !!!!!! I have gotten so many ideas …. you also make me buy stuff LOL !!!!!!!! Keep up the good work !!!!!!!!!! ~Patty~

  30. I really want to try to do mor sewing in my projects, LO’s and cards. I dont do it enough. Thanks for the chance for a giveaway!

  31. I am addicted to paper. I will buy paper just because and then try to incorporate it into one of my projects. Oh, by the way, I snagged the last package of Kraft Paper from Hobby Lobby when it was 50% off! woo hoo!

  32. I would reallly like to take the plunge into digital scrapping- I guess I am afraid it would be frustrating!

  33. Jennifer, it’s always fun to check out your site. I would like to try more dry embossing techniques. I also would like to get braver about alcohol inks. They create such great effects. That’s what’s so neat about papercrafting, there’s always something new to learn.

  34. I think your card drive is a great idea. What a lucky family you have! I would love to start using all the supplies I have collected over the last 15 years (LOL). But, I am especially interested in stamping – something I previously had said I would never do on my scrapbook pages, along with never making cards. I have learned to never say never, because I now think these are two of the most fun things. Good luck to you.

  35. I am dying to try gamsol. I purchased some but I am still a little intimidated. Still working up the courage. Everything you do is so beautiful!

  36. Jennifer, you’re so thoughtful. I can just imagine the smiles and giggles all those cards are going to make. My kids and I are going to make a few, too!

Try a new technique…Soldering…I’ve seen a lot of the inchies and thought what great tags those would make – anything goes! Just have to convince my hubby that I need a pink soldering iron… :o)
