UPDATED: Easy Ombre Backgrounds – Lots of Cards! + GIVEAWAY

UPDATE: My apologies! I am having a rough day. Between some technical difficulties and a few goofs of my own, I decided to redo today’s video and post. I am sorry for the multiple emails and confusion. As an apology I have added a HUGE giveaway! Let’s try this again… 🙂

Hi there! Today I am sharing a video I started many months ago. Finally! It focuses on an easy way to do ombre backgrounds… and I have lots of examples…

Ahhhhhh… I love to make lots of cards with lots of fun products! It definitely makes me happy. Today I made a huge stack of cards… all with the same technique and design.

In my video, I show how to create easy ombre backgrounds with Clarity Brushes and Mini Ink Blending Tools. You don’t need both to create a this look, but it does give faster results. I also think the best results happen when using Distress Inks since they blend so well.

I also show a fast way to create dimensional word die cuts. I can’t recommend Stick It Adhesive Sheets enough! OH – and adding Judikins Iridescent Sparkle Embossing Powder on top of the die cut makes it sparkle and shine so much…

Since I made so many cards with so many different products (sorry – I was having fun!), I thought it would help to share photos and product links here. Keep in mind that at the end of this post I link to several stores in case one is out of stock. Click the product name for more details.

  1. What great ideas, thank you for posting this video. It is hard to choose between the the wilted violet and seedless preserves colors but I have to go with the seedless preserves shade of purple, to me it is just an elegant color. I am always excited when I get an email and you have another video, I get so many great ideas from them.

  2. You are truly an inspiration. Thanks for sharing all of these wonderful techniques with us, I learn so much from you. My favorite color to craft with? Anything pink!

  3. I guess that I favor, not so much the color, itself, but, rather, it’s affect in the overall “scheme”. But, on it’s own, I, really, like the crisp-look of Adirondack’s “Stream”.

  4. Beautiful and so many ideas and ways to use this technique. Thank you. I usually reach for red or purple when crafting. Those distress ink colors are amazing.

  5. Great cards, I loved the video. I use reds, blues and greens mostly. I love the distress inks, I use them all the time. I’m excited when I see another video from you in my email. Thanks for all the tips you have given me.

  6. Hi! My favorite colors are the teal colors, from lighter to darker and pinks, as I have 2 daughters and mostly nieces, so I tend to gravitate to teals, pinks and mix in some yellows here and there. As always, love all your cards and videos.

  7. My favorite color to use is a black and white background with just a touch of another bright color in an accent piece, like a black and white stripe and a red flower with black center. I also love the vivid bright colors and then the soft looking subtle colors. I guess I like lots of options and it depends on the card and the reason for a card. If someone has been sick for a long time then a soft colored card seems more appropriate to me.

  8. I find all your cards stunning. Thank you for the video tutorial Jennifer. I’ve always struggled to get the umbre look in my die cut words. Never occurred to me to leave it on the paper. Now I know! My favorite color is orange, bur I rarely use it in my card making. I tend to use pink and blue more.

  9. I would have to say Blue, by the way yesterdays video was just fine, but I don’t mind watching again and again,
you always do a lovely job and I already created one of the cards for my husbands birthday and I love
    Thanks for all you do

  10. I do not know how one person can create so many cards! Amazing, Jennifer!
They are all beautiful too! Guess I lean toward blue as a favorite go-to color.
Thank you for your dedication and work ethic.

  11. I love the ombre look of these cards and am going to try your technique as soon as I can! You’ve used so many great colors! I usually use rainbow colors, but if that doesn’t suit my card, I turn to purples.

  12. I kept thinking I’d need matching cardstock for the inks and was pleasantly surprised to see that you’d used the distress inks to color the edge of the cardstock behind your feature piece to match! Love it!

  13. OMG…this post is fantastic! Love each and every card – thanks or the details on each card. How to pick a color…both of my boys are going to a college with red in their school colors…so for now, I would say red.

  14. Love these cards and am looking forward to making some of my own. I’m currently in a purple phase, the wilted violet distress ink is beautiful.

  15. I love all your tutorials and techniques and learn so much from you. I like to create in the jewel tone family of colors.

  16. Aqua colors like “pool” are my favorites to work with because it reminds me of the beach but I find ways to use it most of the year like, hot pink & aqua instead of red/green for Christmas and so on. Thanks for fixing the video! I thought it was my new computer 🙂

  17. Oops-forgot to answer the qualifying question, but since I’ve made 4 cards using this technique since watching your video, I can add that they came out beautifully! And I like the Sage green color family (right now-LOL!)

  18. I think my favorite colors to work with varies with the day! I’m looking at my window sill where I display the week’s cards and I have one aqua, one multicolored with more pinks than other, one purple/wisteria-ish colored, one pink and yellow and one with blues and pinks… I do love blending with pinks and today I’m hoping to use the colors pink and grey together! Thanks for the giveaway!

  19. Wow, thank you for doing this video, it was fun to see how you did all of the backgrounds. I can no longer use the ink blending tools because of health issues so I have switched to the Claritystamp Brushes completely. I have 3 sets now. I can’t get really dark coverage, but I can at least still do ink backgrounds. I gravitate more toward scene cards so I’m not sure I have a favorite color to craft with, but when I do make flower cards and inked cards I do gravitate toward purple which is my favorite color. Thanks so much for taking the time to do this video and for a chance to win.

  20. Oh my goodness! So many cards at once! And I love these vibrant cheerful colors! My fave is coral color) may be I really want spring to come)))

  21. Jennifer,
You are one of the reasons I took up hobby stamping, you have the best voice for videos.
I’m a real purple person, I have to tell you tho
I love the teal and orange who knew!
I love the way you always if you don’t have this ” then try this” not to just run out and buy everything.
    This stamping stuff is expensive.

    Thank you for you
    Terese

  22. Picking a color is easy…picked raspberry…love the pinks! Your cards are so inspiring and your patience is infinite!!!
I hope this week goes perfectly for you! Sending good vibes your way!!! Be kind to yourself … you are so kind to others!!

  23. Beautiful cards! My go-to color for crafting is black for sentiments and outline stamping, but I use lots of different colors for everything else. Thank you for the giveaway!

  24. Hi Jennifer!
Hang in there! It is the bad days that make you apreciate the good ones more! 😊
For some reason i looove pink. I’m not very “pink” usualy but when i graft I just go for the ultra girly colours!!
    Take care!!

  25. Love all of your videos!! You make it look so easy!! Turquoise and orange are some of my favorites!! But my all time favorite is burnt orange!! Hook ‘Em🤘🏼

  26. I can’t have just one favorite. Turquoises and hot pinks are what I seem to gravitate toward. They make me feel happy.

  27. OHMYGAWD! So many cards, never enough time! You are my biggest inspiration, you really are. I must have tried nearly all of your techniques, some work and some are a work in progress. I love reds especially but it seems the cards I’m sending lately have been to my kid’s ages – 40’s and they love purple which was awesome to see in this video! Thank you so much!

  28. Wow, you have passion for creating.! Amazing! Love your videos and new techniques! My favorite colors to use are blues and pinks. Don’t you just love ❤ Mermaid Lagoon and Peacock feathers?

  29. Thank you so much for sharing these, Jennifer! I love the idea of matching the ombre sentiment to the ombre background. I love crafting with bright colors, but my favorites are pinks, greens, and turquoise.

  30. Not an easy question to answer. I LOOOOOVE to stamp and color with every single color stamp I own. Jen these are really beautiful cards. Thanks for always sharing great ideas.

  31. These cards are so bright and Happy!
Love all the colors and the technique going to have to get those brushes they look awesome
    Lisa

  32. I LOVE these bright, happy cards and just made a bunch myself! I need more word dies, and will be buying some that you recommended! Thanks for sharing your creative mind!

  33. Beautiful cards and so many great variations. Don’t think I can pick a favorite color to craft with – I just love color! As you’ve shown here, there’s a whole rainbow to choose from so why pick just one 😉

  34. My favorite colors are cooler colors, purples and soft green-leaning blues. Most of my colors are watercolors as opposed to inks. I recently splurged (newly-wed) on some Hero Arts bronze embossing powder and all the things for embossing. It compliments cool colors great. Thanks for the inspiration! I am thinking a background stamp might be my next purchase!

  35. You truly inspire me to get inky every time I come to your blog. I love blues and aquas. Even my clothes tend to be in those colors. Every one of these cards are beautiful. Thanks for so much inspiration.
