One great way to use stamps creatively is to trace them with fun fine-tip markers or gel pens. The results can be colorful and look hand-drawn.

For these cards, I used the new-and-oh-so-gorgeous Altenew Adore You Stamp Set. Isn’t it pretty? I stamped it in Altenew Morning Frost Crisp Dye Ink (an ink light enough to trace over) and traced it with Uni-ball Silver and White Gel Pens.

On this next card, I also added in a few touches of Uni-Ball Gold Gel Pen. All the white accents were created with Ranger Glacier White Enamel Accents.

The gold pen looks great in real life…

This technique also works great with gel and glitter pens. I used a set of Kaisercraft Gel Pens on the next example. (These pens would be a fun gift!) They seem to glow on the Gina K Silver Metallic Cardstock notecard.

And finally… I used the glitter pens from the Kaisercraft Gel Pens Set to trace the flowers on a white card.

I wish I could capture the sparkle in the photo! Oh – and for the gold dots, I cover gold gel pen with Glossy Accents.

  1. I’ve been doing this technique for years and it’s so fun! I enjoyed the video so much and all the cards came out so great! Love the bright colors! And I think the best stamp set from the release has to be Hello sunshine because it has no many cute flowers and greenery pieces plus it’s a great doodle look!

  2. This is such a great technique, and just perfect for Altenew’s stamps style! All those lovely shading lines come out so beautiful in the coloring… Thanks so much for sharing another inspiring project!

  3. Way too hard to pick one favorite set, they are all so gorgeous! I think vintage teacup and happy dreams are probably the most unique and moments in time will definitely end up in my stash since I’m addicted to cherry blossoms ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks as always for the inspiration!

  4. They are all great. I have not used this kind of stamp before but will definitely look for them! My favourite is “Hello Sunshine”. Thanks for the videos.

  5. Well, you’ve made the Adore You stamp set irresistible, but I am always looking for stamps in Spanish, so I am ecstatic to see the Label Love Spanish Stamp Set. TFS.

  6. A friend talked me into trying their stamps and inks when at LSS. I bought the little xmas trees and small green assortment cubes ink. They are amazing. Love them

  7. Hi Jennifer!

  8. Love what you did here AND love how you used the gel pens. I really like this I adore you stamp set of the new release! I do quite like the hello sunshine one as well though ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. I learned about Altenew last year and fell in love with there great layering flowerstamps! Couln’t help myself to buy some other stamps aswell ๐Ÿ™‚
This is a great technique if you want to draw something you’re not good in and you have a stamp of it…thanks for the idea! So usefull!

  10. I love gel pens, but have discovered that not all gel pens will show up the same (or at all) on dark cardstock! The UniballGel Impact in silver and gold will, as will the Uniball Signo ANGELIC COLOUR, but other Uniball Signo colors do not. Also, the Kaiser colour pens that you listed are gorgeous on white [as can be seen in your card ๐Ÿ™‚ ] but I found that they didn’t show up nearly as well (if at all) on black…they almost seemed to soak into the cardstock. Since you used the pen on a Gina K Metallic card, I wonder if the metallic surface of the cardstock kept it from soaking in…? I made a swatch set for my gel pens, adding a thin black strip of cardstock so I could see how they look on dark as well, but I think I might go back and add a black glossy strip to see if they show up differently. I recently ordered some Sakura gelly moonlight pens as I heard they are great on black, but they haven’t arrived yet. I am anxious to see how they compare! So.. just as a caution – in the Kaiser set listed I found that the pastel pens soaked in the least therefore worked the best (but not great by any means); the neons showed up a little bit (except for the purples and blues); and with the glitter set all of the color soaked in (except for silver) leaving only the glitter effect on the surface but no color; and in the metallic set all of the color soaked in leaving just a silvery metallic remainder. Again this could be due to the fact that it was an uncoated matte cardstock- but just something to keep in mind depending how you intend to use the pens. Hope this helps someone.

  11. Obviously, I am a fan. Here is my version of your card done using stamp tracing technique. In my version, I used a digi stamp and kraft cardstock. Thank you for being an inspiration to a lot of crafters, including me. Have a blessed & brilliant day!
