Faux Metal Embellishments + Giveaway (Updated Video)

Hello! Today I am showing a fun way to create dimensional faux metallic embellishments with die cuts and embossing powder. I have been doing this technique for years and never grow tired of it!

I simply will never grow tired of the wow-factor of heat embossing! For this technique, I used layers of heat embossing to transform die cuts into faux metal embellishments. Check out the results…

I find I get the best results when I first glue together three die cuts for added dimension. (These Concord & 9th Layering Leaves Dies are perfect for this technique.) I then press my VersaMark ink pad down on the top of the stacked die cuts and shake on a layer of a metallic embossing powder. After heating it and allowing it to cool, I repeat the process three times to create a very smooth, thick layer of “metal” over the die cuts. The Hero Arts Silver, Gold, and Cooper embossing powders are perfect for this!

I also layered three black cardstock “wonderful” die cuts (Concord & 9th Wonderful Words Dies) and covered with black embossing powder.

I also wanted to splatter some sparkle in the background. Get this – I did it with water! I just flicked water on the background… added WOW Silver Glitter Embossing Powder and heat embossed. Works great!

I used the Concord & 9th Give Thanks Stamps to create a matching envelope. I really like the Gina K kraft envelopes.

For the next card, I also used a leaf from the Concord & 9th Layering Leaves Dies but this time I covered the die cuts with three layers of Ranger Verdigris Embossing Powder. This powder has been a favorite of mine for years and I haven’t used it enough lately. It is gorgeous. I also added a gold-covered “lovely” die cut on top… and add it all to a gold notecard.

My final card uses hearts that I created from a leaf. I stacked three white die cuts together and added color with my Copics. Finally, I embossed three layers of clear powder. The results are fun! The sentiment is from the Concord & 9th Brushed Blossom Stamp Set.

Oh – and don’t forget about Concord & 9th’s fabulous Sophisticated Script Lower Stamp Set. It is perfect for adding names to envelopes. I use this set (and the caps) A LOT.

  1. I love the script letters in both upper and lower case stamp sets, but I also am a sucker for word dies so the wonderful words dies would have to be a favorite as well.

  2. Thanks for showing this awesome technique!!! Without having to the UTEE! Among the Concord and 9th products, I like Wonderful Words dies the most.

  3. My favorite stamp is without a doubt the Sophisticated Script Lower stamp set. You have covered every possibility that we could want and then some. I always find that I can create beautiful pieces of artwork but when it comes to the lettering I pause and hope that I don’t ruin my piece when I do the script by hand. With this stamp my worries are gone. The Sophisticated Script stamp set has everything that you could possibly want and then some. You no longer have to worry about messing up your work with your own writing. This set adds flair and beauty to your art pieces! No more worries only true bliss when you have this stamp set. When I say they have left nothing out, I mean the two different r stamps. One for the beginning of a word and one for the middle of a word. Plus the extra curves for ending a word or starting a word. These add that “sophisticated” touch to your work. Lastly the laurels are a great extra to again use as another “sophisticated” touch to add to our work. It is easy to see how they came up with the name of the stamp set. The Sophisticated Script Stamps are my favorite. I don’t have to worry about adding the script to my work, now I can rest assured that I will be adding sophistication tony piece of artwork . Thank you so much for a wonder all stamp set that has left us with everything we need and more to add script to our art! No more worries just pure sophistication! Thanks for such great work.
