Video: Faux Detail Letterpress & Giveaway

Hi there! Today’s video shares a faux detailed letterpress technique. I haven’t done this technique in awhile, but it is definitely a favorite of mine.

This faux detailed letterpress technique is a great way to get a new use out of any detailed wafer thin dies you may have. Gotta love that!

The fabulous Waffle Flower Doily Circle and Doily Square dies worked perfectly for this technique… thanks to their great detail. I lightly inked the cutting edges of the dies with dye inks. (I recommend using dye inks, but you can try anything you have. Just be light-handed when applying them.) After the die was inked, I placed them on top of some watercolor paper and ran it through my die cut machine with an embossing pad, so it would emboss instead of cut. (If you don’t have an embossing mat, you could try felt or craft foam. Oh – I use watercolor paper because I like the thickness of it for this technique.) The results? Ink pressed into the paper with great detail.

I added Glossy-Accent-covered-die-cut sentiments by Waffle Flower, some hearts from a Simon Says Stamp die set, and some bling from Lucy Abrams. I really like these sequin packs – so many shapes and sizes included in one.

For my last card, I wanted to do something a bit different so I used VersaMark ink to ink up the die and heat embossed the image using gold embossing powder. I also heat embossed a piece of cardstock with the same gold embossing powder so I could die cut my finishing touches from it and have everything match perfectly.

I wish my photos could capture the dimension and shine!

This technique stretches the use of your dies and gives such beautiful, detailed results. I hope you give it a try.
