Dear Husbands (Gift Guide Part 1)… and a giveaway!

(Hi. If you are a regular reader of my blog, please send a link of this post to your loved ones. It is a gift guide for them that I think you will love!)

Dear 1
I know it can be hard to pick out crafty goodies for us crafters for Christmas. You never know what we have or exactly what we want. So I am here to help.

If you really want to make us smile on Christmas morning, get us a few crafty tools – ones that can be used over and over again. Many of these goodies are inexpensive… which I know is hard to believe with the usual high cost of our hobby. :)

So, I am here to help save the day. Here are some goodies I know your favorite crafty loved one will adore. These are tools that I LOVE. I only recommend the things I think are fabulous, so you can be sure your crafters will love them too. And I am not associated with most of these companies – I am sharing these products because they are great… not because I was paid to. :) If you are interested in the price or where to easily get them, just click on the links for each. I listed a lot, so hopefully you will find something to suit your crafter.

And! I was telling Heidi at Simon Says Stamp that I was going to do this post and I was bold enough to ask her if she could hook you hubbies/loved-ones up with a deal. Kindly, she said yes! You can get 15% off everything, in addition to their normal free shipping for orders over $70. Woohoo! Just enter the code "jenmcgink" at check out.

Dear 2
Every crafter needs a great trimmer – one that will cut straight. And this Fiskars one does it, and also has a great wire guide that shows just where you are cutting. Hands down – this is the best trimmer out there. And for about $25, you can't beat it. (Click HERE for more info.)

Gift 2Here is another must-have tool that costs only about $10. These Tim Holtz scissors are great for everything from crafting with ribbon and paper to wire and metal. I even use these to prune my garden and my husband steals them often. Fabulous, I tell ya. (Click HERE for more info.)

Many crafters already have one, but this baby is the Merecedes of heat guns. This heat gun from Hero Arts gets super hot and does a fabulous job. For about $30, it is a great gift idea, too. (Click HERE for more info.)

I am sure you non-crafters have no idea what this tool is. However, this Ink Blending Tool is awesome. You use it with Distress Inks (which would also be great stocking stuffers) and for so many techniques. For under $5, who can say no? (Oh, and you might as well also get some additional foam pieces – they are reusable). I promise your crafty loved one will smile. (Click HERE for more info.)

Check your crafter's room. Do you see a kraft-colored piece that she works on? If not, get THIS. It is an amazing work surface that is perfect for inking and painting and all that good crafty stuff. I use it for everything and you can see it in action in all of my videos. For about $15, this is a GREAT gift. (Click HERE for more info.)

This gift idea is a hard one to explain if you have never stamped before so you are just gonna have to trust me. :) The Stamp Press (or as I call "Stamp Thingy") is great to use with clear stamps and cling stamps. I find it so very helpful and for about ten bucks, you can't beat it. (Click HERE for more info.)

This next idea is something your crafter likely doesn't have but sure would love. It is the new Natural Sticky Back Canvas. (Self descriptive, huh?) There are so many fun crafty things you can do with it… a fabulous gift. (Click HERE for info.)

Every crafter needs adhesive. And I have tried them all! There are four adhesives that are the best of the best: Mini Glue Dots, American Crafts Dot Runner, American Crafts Foam Dots and Glossy Accents. All of these goodes are under $5. (Click on each product name listed for more info.)

Speaking of the best of the best, Hero Arts stamps are incredible. Since they are all made in the USA, you can be sure the quality it top notch. They make a TON of great products including stamps, embellishments, papers and more. (Click HERE to see all of the newest Hero Arts products.)

For today's last gift idea, I would recommend any of the Tim Holtz Alterations Dies. These can be used with ANY die cut machine (even the Cuttlebug) and can cut through everything. There are some new ones out that are great, too. My favorites? The Ornamental, NEW Mini Ornamental, Styled Label, Baroque and NEW Mini Baroque. (Click HERE to see all of these dies.)

So, there are my first 10 gift suggestions for you to get your crafty loved ones. I will be back tomorrow with 10 more.

That Powder Tool…

Getting a bazillion emails asking how the Powder Tool (mentioned in my last post) works.

Just watch this video below. You will see the tool in use just after the 8 minute mark.

Hope that helps!

More soon.

Cards for Kids Update, info and share…

I haven't been very good about updating you all on the Cards for Kids status.

We are still collecting any cards – handmade, store-bought, anything – and I am extending the deadline to 12/31/10. We will then start another round. If you want to send holiday cards, please mail them by 12/16. The more the merrier! Thanks.

Another bit of info. Many people have asked about the Powder Tool I use when I emboss. I love this tool. I just brush it on my paper before I stamp and heat emboss and it prevents random pieces embossing where I don't want. This is SO much better than an anti-static-pouch-thing that makes a mess. This just brushes out a bit – a tiny bit – perfectly. You can find it HERE.

Would be a great stocking stuffer. :)

Also, I thought I would also share a fall layout I did for Creating Keepsakes. Love these photos of the little man.

As seen in the January 2011 issue of Creating Keepsakes magazine. Copyright Creative Crafts Group. Posted with prior permission from the publisher.

So, went to see Santa today. Colin was having nothing to do with it. Was fine the past years. Anyone else have kids like that? Sigh.

Off to watch Dexter. Love. That. Show.

Happy Full Tummy Day…

I hope all you US-folks are recovering from a big day of eating yesterday. I am enjoying the time with family – movies (saw adorable Megamind tonight), shopping (with my girls – so love it), napping (the only way I can relax) and jammies. Tomorrow? Going to see Santa.

In the meantime, I wanted to share a card and some links. Oh! And if you want a chance to win a copy of 101 Things to Do With Your Scrapbook Supplies, click HERE. There is also an interview I did with The Paperlife. Talked about letting go of the pressure of creating and having fun.

Now? A card…

Did this one for the Alterations booth at CHA. Lots of Distress Inks, Memento Markers, Hero Arts stamps and the Ornamental die…

Alterations 2

Just colored right onto the rubber of the stamp with various Memento Markers (the best for stamping with), misted with water and stamped on watercolor paper. (You can use regular – just wanted the texture here.)  For supplies, check out the links below.

And now for some vacation-day links for you:

One last thing: The new Vagabond – the Tim Holtz die cut machine from Sizzix that cuts like a monster through everything – is now available. And HERE is a great deal on one!

OK… off to relax again. Night.

Merci Card Supplies:

Thanksgiving gifts for you…

I pray that you all have a blessed day. I am so very thankful for your constant kindness.

And to celebrate, I have some fun sale info and giveaways. :)

First, there are a few great sales…

  • Simon Says Stamp has $5 off orders and free shipping. Plus a huge area of GREAT sale goodies.
  • Also, Two Peas In a Bucket has free shipping for orders over $25, free gifts with orders and lots of sale items.
  • Finally, anyone who knows me know that I love Ann Taylor Loft. I would say 90% of what I wear is from there (the rest from Target) and I LOVE it. Their quality is fantastic and their jewelry is great. (I get my jewelry from here or etsy.) And they are consistent on sizes. They right now have 40% off your total purchase – fun fun! I only buy when there are great sales… enjoy. (Nichol, I wish I was shopping the sale with you!)

Next? A few giveaways…

(Oh, and before I forget… we have a winner of the Tim Holtz rosette die. The lucky one is Kelly A. I emailed you.)

I was intrigued by the new book about scrapbooking from Nancy O'Dell and Creative Memories called Full Of Love. (I am sure you have seen her on TV lots.) Got a copy and really enjoyed it…

This is really quite a good read. As it says on their website, "Drawing upon her own experiences and the advice of renowned child psychologist Dr. Kenneth Condrell, award-winning entertainment journalist and TV host Nancy O’Dell shows how photos and albums reinforce family values and traditions, strengthen family bonds, build self-esteem and show children how much they are loved." Really focuses on the meaning behind what we do. Find out more HERE.

Interested in winning a copy? Just leave a comment here my Sunday night and I will pick a winner.

And another giveaway…

Shimelle is known for her incredible classes – I can't recommend them enough – and she has a new one called Journal Your Christmas that I am sure is fantastic. Since Shimelle is so stinkin' sweet, she said I could giveaway TWO spots for her class. :)

Interested in winning a spot? I am giving away 2! Just leave a comment here my Sunday night and I will pick a winner.

I am off to snuggle with the girls for a bit. Happy Thanksgiving…

If you live anywhere near Ohio…

… this would be worth going to.

Simply Scrapbooks is an amazing scrapbook and stamp store. They will be getting all the NEW Hero Arts goodies from the new catalog – lots of fabulous goodness.

And on the same day they release them, I will be teaching a 3.5 hour mega class. We will play with lots of new stamps – you will be the first to get to ink them. And for signing up, you will get a free 2011 catalog from Hero.

It will be fun! For more details, click HERE.

Off to get our Christmas tree!
