How-To Video: Watercolor Butterfly

Hello!

I finally am back to doing videos just for my blog.  Ahhhhh… it feels good. :)

This is just a card that I like to make often.  It uses two of my favorite stamps: the Bold Flourish and Heart-Winged Butterfly.  It also uses my favorite inks: Broken China, Tea Dye and Shabby Shutters Distress Ink.

The video shows a few things, including watercolor with ink, creating pearly stamped images and coloring wire.

042909 Butterfly

042909 Butterfly 2

042909 Butterfly 3 Supplies: Hero Arts stamps (butterfly, flourish and greeting) and long notecard, Distress Inks, Ranger Mini Mister, Liquid Pearls White Opal, Wire and Adirondack markers

Do you all have a stamp or two that you can’t seem to get enough of?  Share it in the comments – maybe we will all discover new stamps looking at each others answers.

Off to play with the little dude.  He wants to do some stamping. :)

Love the card! One question – does the walnut stain ink smear at all when you watercolor over it?

  8. Posted April 30, 2009 at 5:12 pm | Permalink

i just let the walnut stain ink dry and had no problems.

Gorgeous card Jennifer – and thanks for the great video.
My favourite stamp of the moment (f I HAD to narrow it down to one) is the cute frog from Hero Arts ‘Sending Happy Thoughts’ set. So useful for boy’s cards and so so versatile. I’m a big fan of that butterfly too :) Thanks for the inspiration as always.

Gorgeous!!! Love the colorful flourish behind that butterfly and the added sheen! I would have thought the walnut stain would have smeared to watercolor over it (even after it dries), but I apparently not! Good to know, I’ll definitely try it out. Thanks for all your inspiration.

Love it. thanks for the tip on using the pearls to give your image a shimmer, would never have thought to use it for that.
    cheers,

Jennifer, great tutorial. Love the shine you added to the butterfly. The whole card is super! Guess you are hooked on those Distress Inks! I also use them with my stipple brush to add some color to a page. I always turn to some kind of flourish stamp as it just seems to add that extra zing to a card. Using it along the side or bottom of a card adds such a lovely finish.

Great video as always. Love all your wonderful ideas–liquid pearls for a great sheen, white wire for the butterfly’s antennae. I really love that Hero brought back their raindrop background stamp. So versatile and I just love polka dots!

Thanks for sharing – it is *so* appreciated! I love the way you used the bold flourish in this card – what a great twist on it! My favourite stamps right now have to be the new designer woodgrain (in subtle tone on tone….yum) and this butterfly – in both the large size and the small size from the ‘Together’ set (that idea came from you too ;-) !

Love all your projects and now I have a reason to try liquid pearls! I do have a question though..Do you worry about muddying up your ink pads by stamping them over top of other colours? I afraid I’ll ruin mine, and I can’t afford to buy a ton if my colours are all mixed.
